:ladyhaha:

How does it feel that Gaga didn't win Best Director? Alfonso Cuaron won though. :applause: Sam Smith could never.

I couldn't believe Coleman won over Close! Congratulations to her (she was phenomenal in The Favourite), but my heart hurts for Glenn Close. It's so disappointing that the Academy continually snubs her. Her contribution to film is beyond worthy of an Oscar.

Also shocked Roma lost to Green Book. It was a lacklustre awards season, imo.

I didn’t like the pathetic preview for ASIB with Serena (not her fault of course).  The other BP nominees got bigger intros especially BR.  *Smh*

Did you guys even see Green Book? That movie was revolutionary.

Agree about Bohemian Rhaposody though.

I’m sad Gaga lost BA but at least talent won over “omg she never won an Oscar she should get one” :vegas:

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

I agree, even though I also believe that Glenn deserved her Oscar in a way I’m glad she wasn’t given one just because she hasn’t won before.

The movie was nowhere near revolutionary. It was a white person's movie talking about black racism at best. I'm not even black yet I can see that. :triggered:

It leaked 2 days ago so yeah I saw it. To call it 'revolutionary' is honestly insulting. :rip: It's a white saviour movie that completely dismisses the perspective of the black protagonist (whose experience was what the movie should've been about in the first place). They didn't even consult Don Shirley's family FFS. That fried chicken scene alone is :deadbanana:

Outside of its technical failures as a movie, it's written by an Islamophobe (who, by the way, is the grandson of the white saviour) and directed by a sexual harasser.

Viggo and Marhersala delivered superb acting, with a great direction from Peter Ferrelly.

I actually don't think it's inappropriate for Peter to make that movie, I think as long as movie tries to highlight something important, or impart great values to society, why should we inhibit it?

There were so many other good movies, my personal favourite was The Favourite, but movies like Roma are clearly better than Green Book.

I cannot deny that the acting was excellent, but it is a problematic movie. The direction was mediocre at best, tbh.

I don't really know what's going on behind Peter Farrelly's life, nor do I think it should influence on whether or not a movie is considered good. But I do agree that Best Picture winners should reflect only filmmakers who hold values that are cherished by the society, and if Peter did sexually harass someone, then perhaps it's a shame.

But from the viewpoint of technicality, without regarding politics and the people who made it, it was very well made imo. The acting by Viggo and Mahershala were beyond amazing, and the writing was great.

I really don't know much about Don Shirley and the controversy surrounding his portrayal, all I'm saying is I loved the relationship between Viggo and Don, and I think it was odd, funny, warm and unusual at the same time, something I rarely find in cinema.

But yes, I do wish it was represented more properly, but I can't shed too much light on that.

Like I addressed above, it's a shame there was so much controversy and politics regarding the filmmakers behind this film, but I'm afraid I cannot agree with you in saying it is just 'mediocre'. It goes beyond that for me.

Roma is unique but too far from mainstream tastes, and a little too slow in its pacing for a lot of audiences.

The Favourite was good too but I preferred Green Book.
