The campaign for TIHTY and Shallow are worlds apart. TIHTY was an unknown documentary song while Shallow is probably the biggest movie song in recent times. There is no way it is losing to someone who didnt even campaign. Also, back then a lot of songs won at different award shows, but this time there's a clear winner. Very, very rarely has the Best Original Song gone to a documentary. “An Inconvenient Truth” is the only one I can remember and it was a very successful movie. and neither the song or the documentary were that successful. The Oscar was possible, sure, it was probably a close runner-up, but the odds were not that good. Yes, it was delusional to believe so much in TIHTY Oscar.
