Isn't a significant part of the Republican base from rural areas with no college degrees though? I often see that reflected in polling. They're working class. So of course they'll want to tax the rich.

And regarding the excuse in the video... :sharon:

False consciousness though.

Republicans do a good job at convincing working class white Americans to vote against their own interests :what:

I think all people should be taxed the exact same regardless of what income.

This is good. A part of me feels like maybe Bernie should run again. If Bernie runs and stokes this idea even further among the Republican base, he’ll win. He’s not regarded as a Democrat, in the traditional Hillary sense, and he’s gained some credibility from some of the repugnant Republican base for speaking out against Hillary during the 2016 primary. He’s also a white man. Even if he believes in racial justice and frequently espouses those views in his campaign, he still visually wont be able to scare away the poor semi-racists in the Republican Party from voting for him. Idk I feel like the cards are lining up for him to win this thing. Maybe he should pick Kamala or a minority female progressive who’s old enough like Ayanna Presley as his running mate. Idk

The problem with that is that the rich can still live comfortably of taxes are raised on them. The poor can't survive high taxes. Taxes are used to generate revenue for expenditure. The rich can afford to pay up, the poor needs whatever little they make to survive. However, what democrats are proposing of taxing the rich 70% is insane. However, I'm all for a tax rate for about 50-55% on the rich.

Idk since most people go on and on about equality I think it'd be perfect to have a reasonable tax be applied to everyone equally.

70% after $10M is insane?

Taxes were even higher in the 1940’s-1970’s. There were many exemptions but the rich still paid more than they are now.

Yes it's insane. AND even though taxes were higher back then, we have a way better standard of living now than back then, depending how you look at it. Back then, rich people didn't have other countries to run to. Try that sh!t now by raising taxes that high and majority of the rich people will go to other countries especially china who consumer market is way bigger than the US, so they will make more money there and pay less taxes. What worked in the pass won't work now because of globalization.

. Also remember our big problem in the US is the mismanagement of revenue. We spend way to much money on the military when we could be investing in infrastructure healthcare and education.

What I'm trying to get at is that Full capitalism isn't gonna work but its still better than socialism. We need to have a capitalist economy with socialist undertones with respect to infrastructure, healthcare and education.

Fairness and equality are two very different concepts though. While taxing the poor 50% of their income is equal, it is definitely not fair.

The equality of genders, for example, is a very different argument. Having a penis or a vagina should not be a factor in regard to how you should be treated. However, taxing 50% of a low-income person might lead to an entire family being starved. Taxing 50% on a person earning $1bn a year, for example, would not have a profound effect on that person's life (some might even argue it having no effect at all), and would in the meantime provide more funding for the government.
