INLA in a plot sense...

If you still haven't seen ASIB, there will be major spoilers so begone, thots
ANYWAY so in the film, we know that Jackson wrote I'll Never Love Again for Ally.
But, how would this make sense? The verses clarly talk about losing someone, though the chorus makes sense as a love song.
Did Jackson just write a chorus, or did Ally change the verses? It seems like she wouldn't change a word of the song if that was the case.
Thoughts?

I also noticed that

But I think we can all agree ASIB's forté is not its screenplay :emma:

I think he wrote it when he thought he lost her after the Grammy situation.

Didn't he go to rehab right away? She found the lyrics in his things, it doesn't make sense

Yeah, he was in the mindset that he was losing her. It's like Ally writing Look What I Found. That song works better from Jackson's perspective. The film loves switching the roles. Heal Me also works better from Jack's perspective seeing Ally really is his cure for the whole film. It's really genius.

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

Jack just wrote the chorus (screenshot of the paper Ally found), and then Ally wrote the verses as a tribute after he died.

he only wrote the chorus (cue the ending where he is playing the piano at the end) we see this scene a little bit earlier where Jackson comes back from rehab.

Oh yes, that makes sense (I haven’t watched the film since October). But I mean he could have felt like he was losing her - many people in relationships feel that way regardless of how the other feels.

do we know if it was right away? I figured some time (a few weeks to a month) had passed as it might have been hard to convince him to go

This. He started the song with just a couple of verses and Ally finished it after he died. Kind of like when they perform Shallow live and he says he made an arrangement after listening to the couple of verses she sang in the parking lot.

In fact, if you look at the scene in the rehabilitation center when Ally brings up the song, Jackson says that he left the writing in the book wishing for it to be found by Ally "when it comes back to her" (as like in a will) ... (though he does not specify that he would kill himself but I think that is what he was trying to say) which means he has often intended to kill himself. But Ally ignores this though she understands what he meant.

Yes! I like how it cleverly mirrors what jackson did with shallow. taking a song she began and completing it/performing it, and she likewise took a song he began and completed it/performed it.

This! this song was one he intended her to find after he committed suicide. Its not like his suicide was out of the blue. He had suicidal ideations since early adolescence.

yeah it does bother me. and i dont buy the "he planned the suicide so much in advance" thing, he does kill himself in a knee jerk reaction after all. its probably just bad/lazy writing of the script

Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride
