Toni is a huge snub for me as is Billie Eilish's song for Roma tbh, I don't get why it's not nominated for anything so far It's fantastic.

Lots of snubs and surprises, I have to say.

Bradley deserved to be acknowledged as a Director.

I think that the fact ASIB missed Best Director and Film Editing nods is a statement by the Academy, claiming: "ASIB won't be Best Picture".

I hope they focus on campaigning for Shallow now, cause it's the only win they have on lock right now

His directing was great but it was also deliberate oscar pandering. He did everything the Academy usually likes and sadly I think they called it and decided to not nominate him just because of the pandering

Shocked too. I wonder if this will affect his Best Actor chances now that he might gain sympathy votes. He was always the runner up against Rami. Perhaps this is foreshadowing an upset? 

This is why the Oscars are so unpredictable. He was nominated at the GG, CC, SAG, BAFTAS, and not at the Oscars? 

things can always take a left turn at the Oscars and the fact that he is not even in the director run to me its like the Academy is telling us he has a chance for BA out of sympathy

True. It’s rare for a film to win Picture without a Directing nom (last one was Argo) or in Editing (Birdman 2014).

So true. Maybe this is all set up so he can actually win his first Oscar. Although it would kind of suck because it means that he'll win for the sake of it - being snubbed for Silver Linings, American Sniper etc - and not actually for Jackson Maine. Kind of like how we waited years for Leonardo DiCaprio to get the Oscar so they finally said okay why not.

I mean, his acting IS good so its not all in the thought of “im just giving you the award because its overdue” at least!  But if he wins, it will look like they snubbed him out of the directir category to give him more chances as an Actor

You can't win everything, he's directorial and editing debut had too many flaws, it was not perfect or Oscar's worthy.

But also, he's own campaign to get a nom was almost non existing, in some sense, at some point it was just Gaga promoting the movie for the noms so it's also a reason why he was snubbed..
