Antoni 5,332
I'm being interviewed today about the impact of "Born This Way" and how it compares to other major anthems of our time. When it came out, I remember hearing that it was the first time "lesbian" and "transgender" had been present on a song on the radio. Can anyone confirm this for me? Google isn't helping. And what would you say about Born This Way if you were doing the interview, too? My name isn't Timmers
AlexanderMagno 10,746
Not sure about the first time on the radio, but it was the firsrt #1 song with the words gay, lesbin and transgender.
VoldeLorde2 8,389
It's undeniably the biggest help of the LGBT movement of the modern age, so don't forget to say that I mean, where would we be without the Born This Way album and message. It broke barriers.
Sneaky Oliver 22,226
I think so. I don’t remember. But it was the first huge song to do it. And it was performed at the Grammys and SBHS! It brought a lot of attention to these words. And please don’t forget the song is about ‘race’ as well and not only gender/sexuality. I mean it’s also a big part of the song! Good luck with the interview!!
bloody g 31,746
It was the first #1 on Hot 100 history to have the word "transgender" in it. 『𝐟𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝』
LOVEDRUG 10,786
It didn't have 'transgender' in it... if I remember correctly the lyric is 'transgendered life'

crybrowz 3,313
I remember Gaga saying that it was in some interview during the BTW era, I don't remember which one exactly, but she did say those words.

Which I really appreciate. 3 points in and ready for more

I love Gaga but that is reaching, you can’t force radio to do anything. They will play when the label pays so as long as the label keeps paying them, they will keep playing the song hence why we keep hearing the same tired hits all the time. You make it sound like the song was made in the 1950s. It didn’t broke any barriers, it’s just another song that honors the gays just like Express yourself except more spelled out.
