What an episode! Dany's sacking of Kings Landing (as horrifying as it was) was probably the most visually stunning episode of television I've ever seen. The music was incredible, as was the acting.

Daenerys going full Mad King Aerys on Kings Landing was something I knew was coming. The first 6 seasons were about Daenerys gaining power, winning power and changing Essos. After succeeding in Essos, she moved to Westeros where she ultimately lost all her power - she was stripped of it. All her allies were killed, she lost 2 of her dragons (her 'children'), she lost all of her advisors except Tyrion and Varys, the latter of whom betrayed her, she fell in love with Jon who also betrayed her (the relation factor impacted her as well) and well.. the Westerosi hate Targaryens. Kings Landing represents the death and destruction of her family, it's what was taken away from her as a child. It has always been her reason for living and ruling. That moment where the bells rang and she realises the throne was hers was also the moment she realised that not a single soul in that city would accept and love her as their Queen, and so she proceeded to burn them all so that the ones left alive would bow to her out of complete fear. It's a gut wrenching turn for a character who we all loved and believed in. Where I think the show made an error was not fleshing out Daenerys' reactions to all her losses over the last 2 seasons (i.e. her grief, her anger.. her emotions really) and that is why there has been such criticism over how the episode and her character turned out. It also exposed Jon and Tyrion as complete fools - at one point in time, they were the wisest characters on this show and by the end of the episode, we're left frustrated that the two characters we always thought we could count on put their faith into a tyrant.

Moving away from Daenerys, I really enjoyed the Hound/Arya in this episode. Every scene either character was in was a welcome change from Dany's massacre. Sandor telling Arya to stop chasing revenge was so significant for her character, it was perfection given both Arya and the Hounds story arcs. The scenes of Arya becoming one of thousands trying to survive the dragon fire were some of the best the show's done. The Mountain V The Hound delivered. It was tragic and comical all at once.

Perhaps my biggest gripe with this episode was the treatment of Cersei Lannister. She's arguably Throne's greatest villain. Lena Heady is the shows best actress without a doubt, and I was waiting for her to have her moment.. it never came. She deserved the most horrible, humiliating death. It's sort of poetic that the Red Keep killed her, the 'safest place in the city', but after all the horror she's forced onto pretty much everyone in Westeros I wanted more for her. I did find it quite sad that the character's final thought was for her unborn child, though. I actually found myself feeling sorry for her in that moment, even though she was using that child for political gain in episodes prior. Jamie's character was always going to go back to Cersei, I'm baffled at why the internet was so shocked by this. Whoever wrote the character saying 'I never cared about the innocent' during that emotional conversation (which Peter Dinklage absolutely stole) needs to be whipped through the streets and locked away. He killed Aerys to save the innocent, he betrayed Cersei to fight for the innocent. It was a poor end to his character. The fight he had with Euron was a waste of time, too.

Also, how did so many Dothraki survive the Battle of Winterfell? :fail:

Yes cause if your brother tried to kill you, after he abused you for years, he wouldnt deserve that. She did what Tyrion did with his father. No one sees that as a sign of madness for him. Thats the problem with her madness. We saw too many people doing horrible things in this show and no one called them mad. She never killed an innocent/ civilian until this episode. And now she killed them all because of some bells. Sorry, but I dont buy it.

I understand it is easier for people who didnt like her, but for her fans, it is a character assasination of the lowest level.

Dany is my favorite, because of her madness, because she was in between all this time, one action was from pure love and the other from pure craziness, she was kind but ruthless for anyone who hurt her or was on her way to the throne.

She has a mad weapon, the dragon(s), any person who would have these crazy monsters as a weapon that they can unleash whenever they want, would use them in a bad way of some point, it's a power that a person can't handle and no matter what, she will always spread fear, the dragons will always be behind her, looking at you with this psychotic smile ready to burn you alive..

Most of the good things she did, she did that because it would benefit her and like I said before, the citizens of king's landing deserved every piece of fire, they were not innocents at all.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Hopefully long enough for Dany to die and to be brought back to life

They messed up big time with this season. Lets see if they can give Dany at least a good death scene.

Internet journalism is an oxymoron, I am more and more convinced.

Of late it seems there’s a new story about me somewhere on the net every day, or near enough to make no matter. Many get things wrong. For the most part I ignore them. I have better things to do than try and track down every weird rumor or out-and-out fabrication that pops up on some obscure website trolling for traffic.

Every so often, however, one of these stories gains an improbable currency, and just chuckling at the insanity no longer suffices.

That seems to be happening right now. All of a sudden this crazy story about my finishing THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING years ago is popping up everywhere. No, I am not going to provide links. I don’t want to reward purveyors of misinformation with hits.

I will, however, say for the record — no, THE WINDS OF WINTER and A DREAM OF SPRING are not finished. DREAM is not even begun; I am not going to start writing volume seven until I finish volume six

It seems absurd to me that I need to state this. The world is round, the Earth revolves around the sun, water is wet… do I need to say that too? It boggles me that anyone would believe this story, even for an instant. It makes not a whit of sense. Why would I sit for years on completed novels? Why would my publishers — not just here in the US, but all around the world — ever consent to this? They make millions and millions of dollars every time a new Ice & Fire book comes out, as do I. Delaying makes no sense. Why would HBO want the books delayed? The books help create interest in the show, just as the show creates interest in the books.

So… no, the books are not done. HBO did not ask me to delay them. Nor did David & Dan. There is no “deal” to hold back on the books. I assure you, HBO and David & Dan would both have been thrilled and delighted if THE WINDS OF WINTER had been delivered and published four or five years ago… and NO ONE would have been more delighted than me.

I have said it before: don’t believe everything you read on the internet.

Except here, of course.

WE ARE NEVER GOING TO GET THE BOOKS :messga:
