If you think about latin music you'll probably think about Despacito or Taki Taki, roll your eyes and strem thank u, next, but personally, i think 2018 was a good year for music in general, but specially for latin music.

If you look in the best albums of 2018 list of most of the media you'll find Kali Uchis' Isolation and Rosalía's El Mal Querer on the top 20. Both of them are very eclectic genre wise but also very cohesive in their own ways, the last one including spanish cultural influences, like Natalia Lafourcade and Mon Laferte did with latin rooted music in their own albums. And maybe, thanks to the "Despacito's effect" it was easier for El Mal Querer, an album sang totally in spanish, to get a spot in the best of the year lists of Billboard, The NYT and others.

Last year, Mi Gente was a little bit overlook due to Despacito succes, but this year J Balvin released Vibras, a very different and melodic take on urban music, aswell as the Nicky Jam colaboration "X". Apart from Cardi B's I Like It with Bad Bunny, the first time south american-born artists sang on the AMAs and others national US shows. Bad Bunny, apart from releasing hits like MIA with Drake, he's a living statement about the genders apperence and masculinity. Was also the years of strong woman artists like Becky G with Sin Pijama, Karol G with Mi Cama and brazilian powerhouse Anitta.

Rosalía's El Mal Querer was also a risky musical project that proved that you can have succes putting art, pop, culture and a huge ass creative production behind the songs (including vocals), the videos and also the live performaces (including vocals).of an album, like the main pop divas do, things that are usually overlook in the latin music industry where singers do what is current and lose their scent to get the coins in a easy way, like many recognized latin artist did with the "trap wave".

Already have my hopes uo for next year. I think for 2019 we'll keep seeing songs like Despacito and Taki Taki representing the latin music in general but that there will be more artist making and experimenting with the music they like with an sustenable piece of succes, and with a wider range than reggaeton, than interpreters selling their voices for the money.

Music not the bling after all:koons:

We don't need Latin music, we don't need K-Pop, we don't need Hip-hop, we don't need any -hop's, we just need what we need, cuz we're thirsty gheys who just listen to Catchy (Dark) Pop Music
Excuse me, I rather want to see Latin music stay where it belongs.. :huntyga::reductive:

We need DarkGa with Bops so we can rule the industry again and learn the other popgirls how to snatch 'em wigs to ultimate baldness!!

It has been constantly winning since like 2014

2014? What would be your picks from that time? Like 2014-16?:oprah:

P.D.: That was a really painful time to go to a quinceaños due to the music tbh

2014 - Enrique Iglesias - Bailando

2015 - J Balvin - Ginza

2016 - Shakira - La Bicicleta

2017 - Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee - Despacito

I’m just speaking  commercial wise, not whether it was actually good music. Latin music has been arguably bigger than english music for quite a few years now

well in the hispanic countries of course, and some parts of Europe. It's been gradually getting bigger indeed, I think Despacito was the peak, but because it was huge, and the most influencial in the decade imo, I see a lot more of succesful latin songs like Mi Gente, Taki Taki, X and others charting in the next years
