Let's see what the good sis Ryan Murphy thinks about that. It's not like anyone beside him is hiring him. Chances are we're going to see him making out with Evan Peters, Colton Haynes, Matt Bomer etc. on one of those FX shows next season.

Tbh I really have mixed opinions on this matter...

Ok people (Americans) are waaaaay too sensitive nowadays so indeed you have to be careful with the choices u make as an artist before cancel culture gets a hold on u. However, acting is....acting...?

It's only an illusion, that's why it's called "act"ing.. so yes a trans person knows more about how the whole transitioning process felt and how difficult it is etc than someone who's just straight, but... do u need to be a rapist to portray a rapist? Do u need to prove that you've killed 400 people to play Michael Meyers? Should I have been killed in the second world war to play in a movie about Auschwitz?

My answer is no. As long as it's done with respect and as much involvement of the right people as possible, you dont need to be those things... after all, it's a movie and not a documentary.

However, for those of you who have watched Pose: it really was one of the most emotional and captivating series I watched about that period in NYC. And knowing that the whole cast is trans, are poc,...it maybe does mean something, but it is still not necessary in my opinion.

I understand your reasoning, but the issue is is that being trans or being gay isn't something you act as. It is who you are. You don't hire a white person to play a black person. You don't "do" being trans or being gay. That is who your person is. The things that you attempted to justify this with are things that people have done.

yeah super weird how it only took him a decade to stop acting gay roles and it magically happened right after he won an Emmy

Naaah I don’t see the point. There’s admiration there and I think it’s sweet but keep doing what you’re doing sweetie.

Its like saying gays shouldn’t play straight roles.

The most offensive man in the world is our president.... we elected him democratically... and you think.. Americans are too sensitive???

When Shakespeare was alive, all his plays were performed by white men. They played every role, included ones written for women, racial minorities, etc. This is not cool. We do not do this. We stopped doing this for a reason.

People of color have an active disadvantage against them when it comes to Hollywood (major movies), so it's unfortunate to put a white person in blackface (or cast Scarlette Johanson to play an Asian woman, etc.) when you could have used that slot to lift a community up.

Same goes for LGB(and especially)T people.

I think it's wrong, when you act, you learn about the character and you learn about how is it to be an LGBTQ person in this case and this is what we need actually, we need them to go through what we went and still going through, if it's the coming out, the homophobia and the rest.. and it's especially important with trans people, we need to let them learn how a trans feels, how the Transitioning works and so on..

Many straights who portrait LGBTQ characters became our biggest alias and voice and many of them are working in charities for our cause - this is the best thing that we could ever ask for, so it's totally wrong to go against any actor or actress that acting as an LGBTQ character, in the past and in the future.

This is a very fair point.

BUT!

This is the point that 'reasonable' people have used to justify not giving roles to ACTUAL trans women (or flamboyant gays) for, like, all of human civilization.

We can do better. We are ready to do better.

Just look at Laverne Cox! It is important to make trans roles. Sure. It is OBJECTIVELY more important to actually cast trans people.

Jeffrey Tambor is cast in the highest profile trans role in America/the world. He is a cis straight white man. What has Jeffrey Tambor done for the transgender community? JACK SH*T. He's done nothing.

Laverne Cox, however, has been one of the most powerful and effective trans activists in human history. She would have never had that platform if both of your arguments prevailed. It is time to give people the voices they deserve.

Yes, acting is perhaps all about learning, but even more fundamental to acting is its power to give people a voice. Gay people and ALL people deserve to have a foot in the door, a seat at the table, and a voice to be heard.
