Gaga was always a character

I am not sure why people are so confused about who Gaga is. She has always shown hints of how she really feels throughout all her eras. For example back when Gaga use to say that Stephani and Gaga were the same person, she would also say that Gaga was a strong version of herself. That she needed to be strong for her fans and that she liked to blend fantasy with reality because she did not always like reality (Gaga being the fantasy). Or remember when she said “Gaga is not real, she’s theater” during an MTV performance. Then after she felt used by the music industry during ARTPOP, Gaga kept saying that Toni saved her and inspired her again because he was the first person in a long time to see her as a person and as an artist. Now during ASIB, she is saying that she finally found Stephani again because Bradley respected the natural version of her just as much as the artist in her. In other words he respected the Gaga that has no makeup, no wigs, and is not wearing crazy outfits. Looking back Gaga has always hinted that Gaga was the strong version of herself. And she has slowly been revealing who she really is because she has been maturing and gaining more confidence in herself. In an interview with Stephen Colbert Gaga said that she does not take back what she has said in the past because whatever she said in the past is what she felt at that time. Finally Gaga is a person that is always trying to find herself and that likes many seemingly contradictory things. That is why she also calls herself an Enigma.

true, I personally don't even think anymore about the "real" me, because everything is the "real" me, I'm just surviving the social situation in some sense.. but I'm still me...

Gaga and Stefani are the same person. All Gaga is is a platform to elevate who Stefani is. People are acting like she is completely stripping away herself when she says that Gaga was a "superhero cape" or whatever. She's expressed numerous times that Gaga, to an extent, is a persona. 

I think that this interview paints a picture of how Gaga views herself. It may be confusing, but Gaga does handle the question quite well.

About not liking reality, and relying only on fantasy, I think she came to a point that where she can face and be confortable with reality. But that doesn’t mean she will leave fantasy for good

How is this "sobbing and self pity"? Stefani created the persona of "Gaga" so that she could be more courageous, brave, and fearless. "Gaga" is just Stefani but 10x. You're acting like she's going around telling people she has cancer when she doesn't.

Stefani created the persona of Gaga because it matched her creative ideas and her concept of a pop star like Grace Jones, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Madonna etc... Then she got some positive press for speaking out on her personal problems and now she's milking it for all it's worth during the awards season.

She probably knew she couldn't make it while being Stefani so Gaga was more outrageous. Now she toned down the Gaga thing a bit and found out that people are more respectful of her real personality she's probably like why not? But yeah, this whole identity crisis thing is just complicated and unnecessary.

So now her talking about her personal problems is her being manipulative? Gaga's not like that. Yes, she made a "persona" in order to embody her creative and artistic ideas, but what's wrong with breaking away from that "persona" from time to time?

Y'all are sitting here thinking you know who Gaga is inside and out when the truth is you don't. You can't expect Gaga to just be "Gaga" all the time. If she wants to let her guard down from time to time, what's the big deal. People are acting like she's going to completely retire and abandon who "Gaga" is. She is Gaga and Gaga is her. 

You also can't take the good with the bad either. I'm sure that this whole experience is very cathartic for Gaga. You're on this forum because you love and adore Gaga, but saying something like "Oh, well she only speaking about her 'personal problems' to get attention," is quite frankly disrespectful and just rude.

It just sounds like a catchall thing to me. I'm Gaga and also everything else. It's kind of like she ends up standing for nothing then

I don't know... I definitely think Gaga was a character, always, but on the other hand, I'm not sure what we're seeing now isn't a character in similar fashion. I'm not buying the whole "this is really me" storyline. If she was smart enough to play a character to get commercial success for years, then why would she suddenly have stopped being that smart?

I'm seeing constant strategic moves from her, now more than ever, actually.

Not really... I just find this sobbing and crying at awards shows during the awards season a bit contrived... sure, she gets emotional because she's getting appreciation for something that's been her dream for a long time, but I don't think mentioning every single personal problem in an acceptance speech is necessary or completely honest... you can justify it by saying Gaga is doing it for the community, for the other victims etc, but I cannot just not notice that it's regularly happening while she's promoting a new album, movie etc.

As a fan, you are entitled to your own interpretation, but so am I.
