Why did The Carters flop?

I’m not saying this to them as individuals but the whole duo they created.

5SOS literally blocked them i don’t even know how to process that information

like it’s so ironic because What should’ve happened is their fandoms getting together to make their album one of the strongest records on the chart. APESHIT went to #13 so that’s something at least

The album is awful. Who would buy it? Even stans passed on it.

I'm a beginner in songwriting, and I'm pretty sure I can write better than that (except for Apeshit which is okay).

It wasn't good :ohwell:

I'm a huge Beyonce fan and I listened to it only a few times, not memorable at all.

As a huge Bey fan, I think they got too cocky with the release. Surprise releasing it as a tidal exclusive was messy. Not making it accessible for everyone is where they continue to f*ck up at.

Then they pretty much gave up on promotion. They did their entire European leg of OTR tour Without performing any new songs(not counting the 30 secs of apeshit). They slowly started adding songs into the tour a little after the US leg happened but by then, I don’t think anyone really cared for it.

the album is full of bops and it sucks that it was treated like trash.

They actually did ok considering the circumstances they released their album (no promo/ announcement, release mid tracking week etc). But I think people start to get tried of Beyonce constant praise and her "perfect" image + Beyonce and Jay-Z hace different fanbases so not everyone of their fans supported the album.

Those being said, I enjoyed the album and think it delivered quality.

Because nobody is there for a Jay Z after Beyonce dragged him to pits in Lemonade. What were they even thinking? :nooo:

Watch it get nominated for Album of the Year anyways at the Grammys. It's not my cup of tea but I feel like they got too cocky playing the surprise release + Tidal Exclusive thinking people would go crazy and subscribe. Maybe they just wanted to have a body of work out there to promote their tour and I guess it works well with it. I just don't see them as wanting to get a #1 song right now, if they wanted they'd get it, payola or not.

Even though Beyonce's unusual release strategy helped bolster the success of Self-Titled and Lemonade, I think by the time the Carters surprise dropped EIS, the novelty of an unconventional release was gone. I don't think making it a Tidal exclusive helped, especially as that streaming service is practically dead; I'm not really sure if streaming-exclusives are particularly wise long-term, as it just seems quite restrictive and could end up making people just illegally downloading albums/ songs that they can't already get with their Spotify/ AM/ Amazon Prime etc subscription.

Plus, Beyonce and Jay-Z's marriage was the focus of both of their previous albums so I think them working together on an album just didn't generate as much buzz as it probably should have.

Maybe this is just my weird personal opinion, but I also think not a lot of people want to pay money to watch a married couple on stage?? Like idk, again, I could totally just be weird, but I feel like I want to watch like a band/solo act/troupe, not like...man and wife lol.

Also, I've heard people are simply not that interested in Jay-Z (I don't listen to his music or watch his stuff, so I have no personal comment on him), and would therefore rather just wait for Beyonce to do her solo thing next time around.

Frankly I don’t think the surprise drops aren’t having as much impact as the first time it can be tiring

This tour grossed more than double their first joint tour.

I didn't even realize they did a tour together previously. :o I don't follow their music (no shade, just not my style is all), so I had no idea until this one was mentioned. Thanks for the info :nick: And I guess in that case I'm just an oddball thinking a couple performing is not that exciting, haha.
