There is definitely something up here. Selena hasn't released an album since 2015, her last big hit was in 2016. Her albums have never even reached gold in the States. She's never had a #1 single. She's done almost nothing for the last 2 years because of her health issues. This makes no logical sense. It's all very well to say that she has a lot of young fans and they're all about subscribing and liking but they're also supposed to be about buying too. That's why young fans are supposed to be so lucrative, because they'll get their parents to buy whatever they want. So, if they like Selena's music so much, why aren't they buying it? I find it bizarre how she has just hit 20 million Vevo subscribers and yet both of her solo albums have only sold about 500k worldwide each. When an artist has that many subscibers but less than a quarter of them are actually buying the music, you can't blame us for calling it payola.

I know I've said it before but this whole situation seems fishy. Over the last few years she has released only semi-successful stand-alone singles. Her current one is a collab with Cardi B (who, by the way, still is on #1 of Billboard with Girls Like You). How come Selena has more streams than her? Or more than Ariana, who was huge with Sweetener?

Granted, it looked like I relied too heavily on the sales written under the Selena Gomez discography part of Wikipedia. They appear to have been edited now. My bad. Still doesn't ultimately explain her huge rise in Spotify listeners, though.
