Most of the big political parties lost their credibility as they called for people to go out and vote, but the people didn't listen to them, as only 20% of the population went to the voting sections.

The only political party in Romania that positioned themselves AGAINST the referendum is the Save Romania Union (USR), known for their centrist views and pro-LGBT, anti-corruption movements. 

Dan Barna, of the opposition Save Romania Union, the only major political party to oppose the referendum, called for the government's immediate resignation for "wasting €40m ($46m; £35m) of public money on a fantasy".
