Outdated system that the industry uses, they poll people in a couple of theaters and thats how they identify who goes to see which movie. The system helps the industry see if a film skews one way and if there are any changes that could be done to get more coins from a certain demographic. In this case, if ASIB had a sequel it would be helpful to add a minority as a lead and highlight them in the adds.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I see why they did it. But still I think it's so stupid that they do. Well, as you said, outdated, is the most appropiate word

Lol no, the people who track these probably asked the theaters or whomever if the people that bought tickets had an account. And since ethnicity is usually always asked when creating a theater or bank account they probably used that data and the data of the ticket sales to see who saw what and what ethnicity they are.

It's pretty common to track these things and very useful for companies that make things towards certain racial groups. And whoever can provide this data gets paid extremely well to give it to them.
