Can you imagine some other politican doing that today at a rally? John is a class act who cared about Climate Change and recently became a supporter of Gay rights. He is a good guy who has a great centrist legacy in the senate, may not agree with everything but I wish there were more John's in the Republican party. This is the one thing that people that know next to nothing about politics bring up to defend this man, which is why I addressed it in my original post. And yes, I can imagine another politician doing that, because they do it all the time. Even still, that's an incredibly low bar for human decency. He was a war criminal, but he once told a woman that she made an ignorant remark while on television, incentivized to say something like that. He opposed gay rights for almost his entire life. I'm not going to continue to have this conversation ad nauseam. I said what I felt needed to be said.

We're mourning a soldier. His death doesn't cleanse his transgressions and bigotry, but for f*ck's sake, we can act like we have dignity and respect for human life. Thank you. Losing a family member to the same thing, this is making me emotional. The suffering is imense. In the end, someone lost a husband, a father, a grandfather, a friend. ⚯͛

Hillary Clinton also opposed Gay Marriage for most of her life and Obama wanted 'Civil Unions' instead of marriage for a lot of his career, guess what people change. But a man who served our nation and served the army while he was seriously tortured for over 4 years is dead and is loved by many on both sides, may he rest in peace. He was shot down and captured while attempting to bomb a civilian lightbulb factory in Vietnam, intentionally trying to murder civilians (which is, according to international law and basic codes of human decency, a war crime). And that's just the tip of the iceberg with this guy. It would take days to detail all of the ways in which he's taken advantage of and further subjugated oppressed peoples. His entire political career was defined by blatant racism, imperialistic international bloodshed, and the systematic oppression of POC, queer people, and the poor and working class in this country. The fact that he once told a woman that President Obama wasn't actually a Muslim doesn't erase that history. Think before you fawningly eulogize this man. As a Middle Eastern , I can assure you that he did the right thing protecting his people and his country. War is war it's kill or get killed . At least he was loyal to his men unlike a lot of leaders who flee and leave their men dying. Also all the countries you mentioned hate the US so much as they oppose the way Americans think and live as it's land of the free. So in this case he was more defending the US than being a war criminal.

Gladys622 974
Mess at the people treating him like he was Hitler. He was one of the few republicans who gave me hope and stood up to trump. He was an American hero, patriot, and cancer victim and he deserves more than a bunch of entitled gays acting like he was evil. His death should overshadow his political party. He became a recent supporter of gay rights and I forgive him, just like we should forgive everyone if they recognize and correct their mistake. My condolences to his family, and may he rest in peace. boom boom cherry

Whispering 18,865
I disagree with much of McCain's political views, but still respected so much about who he was and how he conducted himself in Congress. We need more politicians like him, on both sides. John McCain will be missed.

That's why I respected him. Just one less real politician in the U.S. and one empty spot waiting to be filled by a party-first moron with some CEO's hand up his ass making him talk.
