I came down the mountain
Draggin' our love affair
Put on a pretty little number
I'm wearing you still
It was a hell of a scene at daddy's feast
Nobody saw it coming, but the little red devil in me
He has a funny way saying forever too fast
Don't get mad, can't blame a tramp
For something he don't have
I get on my knees and beg you

Got a baby sister who looks just like me
She wants nothing more than a man to please
Maybe she's in too deep
Her love for him ain't cheap
But it breaks just like a knockoff piece from Fulton Street
The man's got a gift for getting what he wants
He's thirsty when he drinks
Gets on the brink, and throws her off
I get on my knees and beg you

this lyrics>>>>>>>>> ARTPOP

just because Gaga didn't write about fame, how much she loves fashion,  and the media on Joanne that doesn't mean Joanne lyrics are not good or that ARTPOP is better. Sinner's prayers is definitely one of her best lyrics and ARTPOP can not touch it

I can see why the gays prefer ARTPOP, it has more bops and that's it. but Joanne is more cohesive, has better vocals and lyrics.

As you reference a song that Gaga herself didn’t feel strong enough to even include on tour lol

Yeh.. that guy is right.

The song didn’t even make it into the tour and it’s still lyrically better then anything on ARTPOP.

These two are among my favorite albums. I really can't choose, each one brings back many memories and has a special place in my heart. They make me feel different things. ARTPOP is good for letting your pain and anger out. Joanne is good for being at peace with your feelings.

The only songs from Joanne that I still listen to are A-YO, Perfect Illusion, Million Reasons, and Grigio Girls.

I still listen to ARTPOP from start to finish, only skipping Dope.

Joanne 100%... ARTPOP is her worst album and she knows that. I only love Gypsy, Do What You Want (with Xtina), Aura, Venus and Applause. But you can’t compare it with Diamond Heart, AYO, John Wayne, Perfect Illusion, Dancin in Circles, Million Reasons.. those are real quality.:lolga:

mess, it's you who's on venus :smh: Joanne is faaaaaaaaar from her weakest lyrics

ARTPOP's worst lyrics really bring it down, no lyrics on Joanne are as bad as "ask your gay friends for advice", the planet naming in venus, "slap pancake" whatever, "love me love me, please retweet"

The "ask your gay friends their advice" line is obviously meant to be a joke. It's intentionally ridiculous. She's parodying the way Donatella is perceived by the public. She's not earnestly endorsing the idea of getting advice from a gay man before you get a spray tan while on vacation. :saladga:

The "planet naming" in Venus is, again, intentionally ridiculous, and is clearly inspired by ball culture. Venus is essentially a parody of a Gaga song. It's campy on purpose, and it's amazing.

The fact that people seem to believe that ARTPOP isn't meant to be (at least in part) campy and humorous is really bizarre. Have you guys even listened to it?

I think a lot of this (in my mind, misplaced) reverence for Joanne is coming from the fact that the album is "serious." It's "mature," and therefore, supposedly, it's automatically the better album. Camp has worth! Camp is art! Give me something strange and campy over something trite, inauthentic and "serious" any day.

well her attitude towards ARTPOP's concept before and right before its release was initially very serious. she wanted to really push this idea of putting art before pop so you can't blame people for being mistaken when picking out lines like that when she's walking around trying her best to be taken seriously as a performance artist, like a genuine artist, not just a pop singer (literally collaborating with big names in the art industry)

there seems to be a lot more "camp" and "humour" than she wanted or explained apart from saying it was "her pain exploding through electronic music" which can explain the nonsense lyrics to an extent but when does the "art before pop" come in to the music? on ARTPOP and Applause? that brings up the point of it's lack of cohesion

there's also other lyrics like "dance, sex, art, pop, tech", "i can't believe i'm telling you this, but i've had a couple drinks and... oh my god" and "but then i trip upon myself and i fall, i stand up, and then i'm okay" are just corny and cheesy no matter how camp the song

Isn't what you're describing, the idea of making popular art that is both ridiculous and meant to be taken seriously, the central idea of Gaga's entire career? This is the woman who studied modern art, postmodernism, and wrote a dissertation on Damien Hirst in college before getting Jeff Koons to produce her album art (two artists famous for trying to demystify art, a medium that had historically been made available only to the wealthy and the powerful, and infuse it with popular, "low-brow" iconography). She knew what she was doing.

Yes, when she was promoting the album, she came off as very self-serious at times, but she was also completely ridiculous. She dressed up as the Mona Lisa. She hung out with performance artists, and then performed with octopus tentacles on her head on tour. She wanted to be taken seriously, but that doesn't mean that she wasn't aware of what she was doing and didn't mock herself over the course of the album. That's what ARTPOP was all about. ARTPOP is an interrogation of her public persona and how it relates to who she really is as a human being, and an interrogation of pop iconography in general. It's much, much more intelligent than people give her credit for, largely because of the issue that she was trying to touch on the entire era: people don't take pop art seriously, and they should. That's a really great, populist message. It's what she's been pushing here entire career. It's why I'm a stan.

well to be fair on the album, the era's end result was not what she originally had in mind so the concept she explained before the album release very likely came off as different due to uncontrollable changes and events that occured as the year went on (such as cancelling the app, cancelling the DWUW era, troy leaving her etc) and confusing to those who don't follow her closely

AP is better in every way shape and form compared to Joanne.

AP has bops, lyrics, ballads, and fun.

Joanne has Perfect Illusion

I think the album is what she described in her interviews. I think the ERA itself was a disaster. She had all sorts of ideas that she didn't get to carry through to fruition because of her management. Her performances were all over the place. Her choice to collaborate with R Kelly was hideous and I'm glad that portion of the era was scrapped, though she did redeem herself over the past few years. However, I don't think any of that has an impact on what the album was about, though. She wasn't being managed properly. The intent behind the music was still the same.
