No I didn't I just said that comparing an useful creation with no additional risks ( the car) to a creation with advantages that can be replaced very well by school materials and can also be tricky was not a valid one imo. Well even they did know how to deal with them, once the temptation is available you have a risk they cede to it. I agree that it could be given back to the students for the break but the positive point of it will be that it will force students to learn how to socialize a bit more. In my class nearly everybody jump on a smartphone during the break while a while ago we were talking and not going in a virtual place asap. I mean even gaga talk about the studies about how spending a lot of time on a screen was making you depressed. Young folks globally spend a ton of hours on a screen while at home, is that so bad they gonna have to not be a screen while on school breaks? It has its good and bad points that shouldn't be overlooked just for the sake of not re-doing what was done before I think. This ban is saying you couldn’t do well if you had them. Again punishing those who actually use them responsibly. It’s too broad. So is every other thing. Kids can distract themselves if they want to. Should we ban paper and pencils bc some kids distract themselves with doodling? Bc that’s the logic here: not attacking the root of the problem. Again, it’s stupid they’re not utilizing the fact that everyone brings supercomputers to school but oh well, people are backwards, nothing new. Still reflects the individual on how likely they are to fall for the trap, idk why the government is trying to regulate on that. If you wanna push kids to be social then that’s cute but like do it in away with doesnt involve banning phones. If only the French government realized the good and bad, and not only choosing to lean one side. Tbh the gag this conversation of distracted kids has been going on forever, so there’s a root problem that isn’t being addressed here and banning smartphones will barely fix anything. The actual reason isn’t comfort, it’s an excuse not to interact with them bc your phone can give you entertainment. The bullies are going to have less of a chance to harm you if you aren’t focused on them. Logically, if you avoid things that trigger suicidal thoughts (something you brought up randomly: life and death) you greatly reduce the chance of harm. Plus friends in another grade aren’t going to blast music in your ears to drown out the screaming and behind the back teases jerks will make when you’re stuck in your own class. My friends remake movie scenes, sing, read books totally unrelated to school, etc. Phones are not the problem. It's the students in any case. I didn't read the whole conversation but The root of the problem are the children only thinking at using their smartphones, and it's a problem that trascends the school because that happens most of the times. Since I think the school should teach children rules, how to correctly behave etc, I think it's safe to saynit should also teach that you cannot always use your phone. The problem with the other ways to distract yourself are already faced in schools as teachers and professors should teach you to pay attenction, and if after years of school you cannot pay attenction for some hours straight than that's on you and school cannot do anything about it - but that's another thing. No it's saying it's helping them to do well . Not that people using it could not succeed. The thing is you can't really see who's using responsibly in a classroom I think. Some will fake checking pages related to the lesson to switch to something else once the teacher is gone. Except is the teacher spend his/her time checking everybody's phones but (s)he's not doing her job anymore then.... Well you could be distracted with many things indeed but the phone is by far the one offering you the most options lol. Seriously internet is like an ocean of possible distractions so that's worst keeping the paper&pen. Nobody said it would fix the problem of kids not paying attention. Just that it would give them less distractions to be tempted. Yeah personal computers at school could present the same problem. School computers often block some sites to be sure nobody's spend time on insta/facebook/twitter etc. Backward? That's quite dismissive of you lol... Being social is one of the most helpful skill you can have for your personal life and for your professional so I think it's more than just "cute" lol. Yep we'll see the results.
