No surprise, she's desperate for hits and always has been. This is why I haven't chosen to stan her like I do Gaga, cause Gaga really only makes music for the sake of making music, not to be on the radio

I like that she was honest. I also really like that she is still ambitious when it comes to commercial success. I mean it's easy to shrug it off and just say "i don't care of commercial success" but honestly as Katy said...what artist wants to invest months/years of their time in the studio, tons of money, tons of time you could of spent elsewhere on an album only for it to flop or under perform. An artists goal is to reach as many ppl as possible with their work and commercial success tends to equate to that. That being said wanting commercial success should never be the main goal when creating the album otherwise you will create art that is artificial and a little calculated but yeah it's never a bad thing to think about commercial success or to want it after the creation process is done. It's what I like about Joanne. Gaga created music that she felt was true to her and then thought of ways she could try to make it as successful as she possibly could after the creation part. She may have thought of acclaim when making the album (which is not a good idea imo) but she did not think of commercial appeal during the creation portion and I love that. She thought of all that stuff afterwords and made sure her album was as successful as possible by performing MR everywhere and doing the SuperBowl.

Only a very small portion of artists don't care about success anyway. It's rather cool that she's honest about it.
Also I never thought about album sales that way : they're also a salary (I suppose) to all the other people who worked on the album but that we don't know about

I don’t think that’s the case for the most part tbh, sadly on an album where many people work I think most have stable one-time payments

People who are calling her desperate need a reality check because there's nothing wrong with what she said. She's saying that when you invest time, money and effort in a project you naturally want it to succeed. Isn't that completely normal and what we all would want? And she actually learned to cope with disappointment and failure so I have nothing but love for this woman.

Nicki: Desperate
Katy: Desperate
Xtina: Desperate
Gaga: Hollywood star, still relevant and praised as a role model/actress/artist, voice against hate, abuse, and rose from her ARTPOP phase (although I love AP) with elegance, grace, and a better vocalist/musician/songwriter.

Feels good to be a Little Monster these days. It's probably how the disciples felt when Jesus proved he was a magic wizard, "Told you so!"

It seems like she tributes happiness to success a lot of the time, which is unhealthy. She needs to separate those completely and work on her confidence musically, which I feel is more about getting multiple top 10 hits and selling millions than really focusing on the album's narrative and purpose.

As an artist, you should be happy and proud no matter if the album tanks in my personal opinion. Which kinda makes me feel like she's more about quantity over quality, I definitely get that vibe. I mean fair enough if the album you make doesn't really hold up to your personal standards then that's alright, but considering the way she looked upon Witness being a complete gamechanger and taking it horribly like she wouldn't be shocked that people don't care about "purposeful pop" honestly makes me giggle. Either way, I've always been unmotivated to really stan her for more reasons including those.

She seems more corporate than connected than Gaga, which was verified for me after Joanne was released and therefore I felt more confident in my bias as more of an artist than a marketing tool. :spin:

Even though I do think that Katy creates music with a more commercial mindset in mind, let's not act as if Gaga didn't do every single gig, especially in the beginning of her career. If she just wanted to make music, she didn't have to sign to Interscope. She could've stayed performing in underground clubs in NY. But she didn't want to, she had a bigger vision, just like Katy. Nothing wrong with that. Aren't we all expected to deliver results in some sort of way. Whether you're a musician, doctor, lawyer, painter or whatever :trollga:

She just said that it's normal that if you invest your time into your work, you want it to be successful. I'm 100% sure Gaga and a huge majority of artists feel the same. Some of them sacrifice their creativity in order to have hits and some of them make music they want to make but that doesn't mean they don't want it to be successful

I actually really enjoyed watching this. She openly talks about anything from how she feels, feuds, to even Orlando's junk. I think Katy is more real than people seem to lead on, which really sucks.

I'm sorry, but when on earth did Katy Perry sell 40 million albums? Was her gospel debut more successful than I realized?:toofunny:

Katy Perry should do something that really fits her, not commercial bubblegum pop
