Guest
Honestly in terms of relevancy I'd say there pretty equal While CTTR performed much better than PI, MR actually has more RIAA certified units than CTTR. But then again Bon Appetit performed better than PI so... although tbh Gaga has managed to stay relevant by slaying the Super Bowl, which genuinely made headlines all around the world, and didn't even try to sell her songs with MVs Don't get me wrong, I appreciate them, but they were obviously not made to go on trending like Katy's were
Mylene 1,988
Katy always gonna be bigger than Gaga in terms of streaming like ? all the Witness era video has at least 400m except HHHey and Spotify CTTR and SS has better stream Katy is touring WW with 100 dates and doing somehow 1m per dates while Gaga is rotting in Vegas Katy next year gonna release an album with her dark hair and max martin and someone else producer i forgot the name while Gaga gonna do Jazz and the soundtrack But Gaga has the claim so ... we have to wait and see! PerfectCure 4,758
This is coming from someone whose country only plays one hit wonders on the radio these days. Gaga’s name is and will always be... there. Everybody has heard of her. At this point, you’re actually living under a rock if you haven’t heard of Lady Gaga, that meat dress lady or whatever you’d like to call her. That’s because her marketing and exposure was on a level that the pop culture has never experienced before her debut. Katy still is a streaming and radio power even in her underperforming era, showcasing that she’s truly a GP magnet. She will always be there, even if she releases a indie gospel rock album with ethnic influences or something. The thing is - both are on different levels. Right now, if I were to pick who’s more relevant overall, Katy would be the answer by far. However, culturally speaking, Gaga had such a high impact that her name will always be remembered. Don’t be surprised if people remember Gaga but not Katy in like, 2200.
socotra 3,346
I think Katy will always be the more commercially successful artist because her music is harmless, generic, and easily digestible for the GP. Aside from the transition from One of the Boys to Teenage Dream (and even that wasn't particularly jarring), her music style has remained the same and she's stayed comfortably within the pop genre. Assuming pop continues its decline against hip hop, I doubt Katy will return to the top anytime soon (except as a feature on a hip hop song). That being said, I don't think she's bigger than Gaga. Katy's peak overall was not nearly as monumental as Gaga's peak. There was never Katy-mania; Katy was never a pop culture phenomenon, never the "it" artist, never someone who commanded the headlines and impacted the industry's trends in such a prominent way (as Gaga did). While Katy certainly has had greater chart success than Gaga (I truly believe her greatest claim to fame is TD's five #1s; if it weren't for that, then....), she will not be remembered as anything more than a cookie-cutter popstar (that is, a cookie-cutter popstar shaped after the Gaga model of a popstar). Gaga has influenced the dress of countless modern artists from Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj to Rihanna and Halsey, and especially Perry. Following Gaga's bombastic and controversy-laden arrival on the red carpet, suddenly contemporary stars paled in comparison and a new flurry of color, edgy looks, and "artsy" costumes. Katy was a follower in this Gaga trend. Gaga released Born This Way when same-sex marriage was legal in just five states in the U.S. and in doing so became a leader in the fight for equality in the United States. Katy Perry has never attempted something nearly as controversial, audacious, or career-risking. Following critically acclaimed performances at the Oscars, Super Bowls 50 and 51, a Golden Globe-winning performance on American Horror Story, and another slew of Grammy nominations, Gaga is appreciated now for a phenomenal voice beyond the costumes and wigs – the critical view of Katy's voice is poor, to say the least. There is no doubt in my mind who will go down in history as the more critically, culturally, and politically impactful artist. tl;dr - Gaga is bigger. Those numbers dont mean anythin Shes just more worth consuming but streams show whos popular girl... Gaga got more grammys noms, more SPS sales, and more record sales WW overall. Gaga is an acclaimed artist with bigger sales while katy is just a streaming artist at this point. Don't be delusional.

MeloArtDramaPop 789
A few years back, when you say the name gaga most of the gp would sneer at you because she was pop and supericial but after everything Gaga has done to rebrand herself from her image, she is now a talent, a living legend, a triple threat. Katy remains the same, and she was trying to rebrand herself to as a serious artist with witness with its “woke” message, but it didnt feel as natural as Gaga’s. And like let’s not pretend swish swish and cttr werent payola fueled to be hits. Katy has a chance to redeem herself but like she should stop following the footsteps of Gaga and find her own artistry.

Yelir 573
Yes I think Gaga is bigger in terms of stardom. I’m not talking numbers, I just think Gaga has did so many different things and has proved her talent on many different levels that she is known and respected for by many different types of people. That to me is what makes a musician “big” and gives them longevity. Numbers come and go. There’s always going to be a new “it girl” who outsells the others. Touring is a choice. If a tour goes longer and therefore makes more money that’s because the artist wants to keep touring not because they’re “bigger” and in more demand. Some artists like small tours, some like to just keep going. Look at PINK, her tour is going to be almost 2 years when finished. Cher toured for 3 and a half years from 02-05. Gaga is on a level where she can sell concerts. If she wanted to tour successfully for multiple years at a time and have the most successful tour of the year, she could. I think the only thing that’s gonna hinder Gaga’s star power is that damn Vegas residency.

Joanne outsold Witness and that's a fact. 𝖓𝖊𝖜 𝖗𝖊𝖑𝖎𝖌𝖎𝖔𝖓
ALGAYDO 33,233
They’re not even in the same league tho. Post-2015, Gaga is making reservations for herself at the LEGENDS ONLY table, while Katy is still having fun with teenagers at the kid’s table.
