Isn't actually a leftist...

He did a coalition with a very religious party that it's against gay marriage and legal abortion :S

Such terrible news. There truly is no such thing as right wing and left wing in Mexico or any other country. He is very similar to Hugo Chavez from Venezuela and his reshaping of Mexico I fear will end in a disaster like Venezuela.

Idk, I’m hopeful.

He isn’t using a nationalized oil industry as his crutch for social programs, so it’s hardly another Venezuela-type situation. *eye roll*

Mexico’s economy has been steadily growing for decades, but the only people getting richer are the billionaires and dirty politicians.

I find many of his policy stances worth a try. So, unless you want to give PRI scum or PAN good for nothings another 6 years, I say sit tight and see what this party has to offer. It was a landslide. Mexico has voted for something different. Let’s hope it actually is different... for the better.

I don't know much about Mexican politics but is comparing Obarador to Chavez and saying he will turn Mexico into Venezuela accurate or just fear mongering rhetoric?

I ask because I've heard this type of fear mongering about many left-wing politicians in various countries before.

Because AMLO is a populist in which he emphasizes the lower class, i.e. helping the poor rather than helping the rich, which in some right-wing media outlets, he is seen as a socialist/communist, which therefore compares to Chavez

also, because Mexico has been under PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party) rule, which is center-right for 71 years (from 1929-2000) and then PAN (national action party), right-wing, took over for 12 years (‘00-‘12) then later being taken over by PRI with Peña Nieto in 2012. I think he is the first leftist candidate to win the presidency.

Is he backed by the mafia?

I read so many news that many politicians trying to run had been killed. And I assume done by cartels?

Lol at people comparing Obrador to Chávez and that Mexico is going to turn into Venezuela. Pls lets not believe everything people say on Twitter, it's the same argument over and over again.

I voted for him, same as 6 years ago. This is the 3rd time in a row he's up there to become the President and finally won after 2 electoral frauds. People actually woke up and voted today winning with over 50% of votes. People are just tired of PAN and PRI and want something different.

Fear mongering

I could write for hours, but the best thing I can say, when he was governor of Mexico City, he did great and was well respected (he was named the 2nd best mayor in the world by some international magazine, I think it was Forbes). There was no sign of him turning into a "Chávez".
