Awrah999 4,353
I'm happy for Aquaria--she's undeniably talented, fiercely competitive, and has shown a level of intellect and maturity beyond her years. It seemed like the whole season's arc for her was that she became more introspective and relatable throughout the season, and I'm happy to say she closed that storyline well. I also appreciate her love of Gaga immensely and think she's slayed some amazing Gaga non-singles in her performances (Diamond Heart!) and I can't pretend that didn't factor into (i.e. completely changed ) my opinion of her. I am so heartbroken over Asia's failed butterfly stunt. Reading this article as well as her social media post really made me have a different perspective of what happened: http://ew.com/tv/2018/06/28/rupauls-drag-race-asia-ohara-butterfly-lip-sync-interview/. I was rooting for her to win, but was also happy for Aquaria or even Eureka to take the crown. I think she is one of the most well-spoken, polished, entertaining, down to earth queens to ever grace RPDR, and I think her humility and kindness will take her very far. I also appreciate how she "stood up" to Ru in the reunion episode--I feel like she takes some very valid points that Vixen makes and communicates them in a way that Vixen could never. She also has an electric charisma to her (her ridiculously pearly whites do help) that is simply undeniable. She's a queen for the ages and I hope she gets more attention and appreciation despite her performance in the finale. Eureka is so over the top, and at times too much, but that's why I love her. She's had minor moments that were cringe-worthy (like her fight with Vixen and trying to strategize her narrative, etc.) but overall I felt that she had the biggest personality and really was downright hilarious in many challenges this season--she's also hilarious off the cuff in conversation and I would pay good money to see her just talk and do stand up. I also think her success as a big girl is unprecedented and she was extremely creative in her looks (loved her Gaga look last season before her injury!) in ways that I feel plus-size queens typically aren't (as they oftentimes gravitate towards pageant looks). I really felt (and several people who were in the live audience agreed) that she won her first lipsync vs. Aquaria, but I'm ok with Ru saving both as Aquaria still did very well and her overall performance for the season makes her deserving of the title alone. Kameron is a good lipsyncer (her Britney hair flips are impressive/appear impossible) but somewhat one-note and completely lacks charisma. Overall, I think Ru crowned a deserving winner and based on statistics/track record, she was by far the favorite for the whole season. I just was disappointed in the finale format and while I wanted to end to feel like a celebration, it felt more like an anticlimactic relief that this messy finale was over. I think if you're going to do a lipsync smackdown, then you should stick to your guns and choose two queens to battle it out in the end. I also worry about how props/stunts/reveals will be overutilized in future seasons, catering to the post-Sasha Velour era of trying to win over the live audience with well-timed stunts as opposed to just lipsyncing the sh*t out of the song. I feel like Ru wanted to crown Aquaria the entire season (and editing/storylines to match) and essentially saved her against Eureka; that being said, Aquaria slayed the final lipsync and the dancing and reveals/props were well-fitted to the song and perfectly timed. I also think Ru, as much as I like her, glossed over some of the conversations surrounding race that the Vixen and Asia OHara, among others, have raised throughout the season that I think are so vital to the future of drag and the LGBTQ community; it's probably hard to juggle an artform started by queer people of color slowly becoming popularized to a white, straight, mainstream audience. It's a delicate balance, but I'm hopeful Ru and the RPDR team will continue to spark these discussions and highlight them more. Until next season! Babel 41,495
The last lipsync should’ve been Aquaria x Asia, both of them deserved to go to the final. Too bad Asia’s lipsync became a disaster due to this reveal trend that’s going on nowadays.

Post-show editing removed a few of Aquaria's stumbles; several people who were in the live audience said they thought Eureka clearly won based on audience reaction. If anything, Ru saved Aquaria in that first lipsync, giving her the opportunity to move on via the double shantay she hated earlier in the season. Eureka has three moves while lip syncing and always does the same split and half twerk think. I just thought she was boring and the reveals might as well have not been there they were kind of overwhelming. Idk i was rooting for eureka through the first half and then it was kind of like yeah its getting repetitive.

Aquaria also used the word years ago http://archive.is/T75R5 why do people only pick on eureka for it(who’s constantly apologized)?
tomsches 17,435
My thoughts on the finale Firstly, Asia's idea was horrible! For her lip sync she decided to kill butterflies, toss around some surviving ones only to jump around over them in front of millions of people. I never liked her, but I still had some respect for her, but that lip sync made me lose that as well. Concerning the reveals, I mean I get it, everybody wants to recreate Sasha's iconic reveal, but Sasha's was so iconic because it was completely unexpected and you didn't see it coming. And when Aquaria came out with this silver... thing it was already clear that she was going to reveal another outfit. Same goes for Asia's giant bra, Eureka's cloud dress and Kameron's Kimono. It wasn't even a surprise anymore. Plus, Aquaria made her reveal after like 5 seconds, so why even bother putting on that ugly silver thing? Eureka clearly won the lip sync between herself and Aquaria, but we all knew that Rupaul wanted her to win. And, oh what a surprise, the final lipsync is a song by 3 singers. I wanted Eureka to win. Out of all the queens she has entertained me the most and she's the only one I would pay money for to see her perform or even just talk about random stuff. The way she speaks is enough for me to make me laugh. I am not 100% mad that Aquaria won, but personally to me she is a generic winner. Yes, she served some of the greatest looks, but I can't remember any challenge in which she truly entertained me (apart from snatch game). She's like Violet Chachky, who also had great looks, but didn't do much memorable imo. Plus, she was quite bitchy and just not very likable at the beginning and when she faked crying when The Vixen called her out was just pathetic. 1. Sasha Velour 2. Bianca Del Rio 3. Bob The Drag Queen 4. Jinkx Monsoon 5. Violet Chachky 6. Sharon Needles 7. Aquaria 8. Bebe Zahara Benet 9. Tyra Sanchez 10. Raja --> I didn't watch season

T3ARS 4,132
This has been a very interesting season. It had a great cast with many bright personalities and touched on issues in the fandom and drag community as a whole. I think the crown went to the person who deserved it (Thank god), the seasons have been declining in integrity. It seems since the move to VH1 it became more about what is "shocking" and "unexpected" and through that its lost its honesty and charm. The untucks are boring and drama can seem forced. Queens are scared to say anything because they will get attacked by many of the delusional stans of certain queens. Many fans have rose-tinted glasses and tunnel vision when it comes to their "fave" queen and it's honestly bringing the everything down. Also, the fandom has a TERRIBLE memory of what queens said/did and how they were treated on and off their seasons. They will pull anything to discredit a certain queen just to "justify" their dislike/hate towards them. It's toxic and needs to stop. And criticism is different from bullying and being mean, for example, the queens taking to Kameron about her cold and distant personality was not "mean" nor were they "attacking" her. They expressed their dislike who some of her personality traits and discussed them so that she might work on them. The Vixen (who I love) was attacking people who did not agree with her or had personality traits she didn't like and if they didn't change she would explode. Saying "I wish you were a little more open to the group" is not the same as "Your personality is **** and you're ****" The show itself has become a roll-a-deck of personal sob stories to "relate" to the queens and as much as it's needed, it is so forced. What makes it worse is that Ru gets to play the "Mama bear" near the end when she honestly couldn't give two ****s about some of these queens. Ru has lost her touch and is pushing this "Oprah" like narrative and it's becoming annoying. But because she is Ru she can do no wrong (I'm not saying she is free from criticism but people cherrypick when they are "offended"). Some of the shenanigans that recent seasons have pulled is a disgrace to what Drag race use to be. From this horrid "lip-sync for the crown" bullshit to the allowing of pervious knocked off queens choosing the final 2. It's stupid and desperate. I might stick around for one more season but honestly, these "tricks" and "shocking moments" are becoming quite dull. TL; DR CONGRATS AQUA It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences. - Audre Lorde

Tanner 810
I'm honestly so happy. Aquaria was the true front runner. The only thing I wish was that Asia was runner-up, she obviously deserved 2nd. But come on, Aquaria is pretty polished and will be a good reigning queen!
