It's true that with the streaming era certifications are kinda losing their credibility but I think that we have to be more openminded and accept the new streaming era. It's the future of music, that's how it goes. Gaga's team has to do the same or else she won't be having the success she deserves to.... I think most people would still think it's dumb. But if Gaga benefited we probably just wouldn't say anything about. But regardless of Gaga, I too think it's meaningless. Maybe because I followed music from the 90s I don't know. But I think it's dumb for one hit song to give certifications for a whole album. It's the future and there is nothing we can do about it, and Gaga's team will have to adapt and we will support them. But it's still dumb logic IMO.
Karl 3,406
It looks good on paper but meh, streams seem a bit pointless to me. It’s like if they made all the food in the supermarket free. People are gonna go for fries and burgers and crisps/chips and chocolate because they taste good and are easy to digest over something quality like a French cheese or a vegetable that might be better for them. I have no idea what I’m saying but there’s a point in there somewhere.

If ONE SINGLE TRACK is what’s keeping an album afloat (I’m not saying that’s what’s going on with Cardi, but since this is the current topic of discussion, we’ll keep to it) then the “album sales” are an illusion. Saying an album sold X amount, even tho most of those “album” sales are condensed from a single track, then that’s cheating. Just because it’s the norm nowadays in the music industry, doesn’t make it any less so. I full accept that this is reality, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be complicit in it
NCgaga 4,323
I'm sorry, I know I'm ignorant on this. How is this successful? When I think of successful album sales, I think 1 million in one week. Hell, Adele did over 3million in one week with 25. I know I'm missing something here.

If you accept streams, then yes it's good for new artist. She basically did the same as Joanne before her SNL performance

Like, say “X artist sold Y number of tracks and Z number of albums!” And keep its separate and cute. It doesn’t devalue the music itself, it literally just more accurately represents how the tracks/album is doing, commercially.
