Something I Noticed About 'Gypsy'

So when I listen to Gypsy, I never really understood the line 'I said honey it's simple it's the way you love and treat your mother'. In fact, I've never really understood what the song means in general.

However, I've just been watching this (incredible) performance again:

Now, at the 4:44 mark she begins to sing the line and when she sings the word 'mother' she does this movement with her body, which suggests that she's talking about herself. Then I realised! When she says 'mother' she does mean herself (Mother Monster) and so, the song is not only about a romantic relationship, but also, and more profoundly, about her relationship with her fans.

This makes even more sense in the context: she was just recovering from breaking her hip and used this song to thank us for the way we loved and treated our mother and as a promise to follow us around the world once more.

Yeah but that's why I never really understood it because that's not the reason you love someone; it's just something that attracted you to them.

i'm gonna disagree. i think she's saying that in the same way her bf shows deep love and affection for his mother, it's precisely those qualities that she loves him for. it shows that he's a good guy.

It's interesting isn't it because the album is chaotic, then in Dope she crashes and realises what's important to her (the people around her including her fans) then she shows appreciation for us and emulates that realisation in the final two songs.
