GagaStefi 1,231
There was a discussion on another site about Gaga “pushing boundaries” and someone said “The difference is that those people were living their true selves. Lady Gaga was a made up persona to sell records.” I obviously thought that was ridiculous, but I did get me thinking. What if it did start that way with her label, but now she’s doing what she actually wants to do (hence why the music is different, and she does seem happier.) I mean she probably did have creative control but the idea of her being “crazy” could’ve been heavily pushed.
FATCAT 60,003
Watch Gaga's documentary, and all will be explained. She's in total control of Gaga. This kitten over here (meow)
Retron 2,605
"Made up" is taking it too far. Her public life was part of her act, and it was always her speaking in her voice.

Personally i feel lady gaga is very very smart. She couldn't have really got famous with Joanne...and if u see songs in fame its not that good of album..but few songs were iconic and she became huge in no time..she is creative and artistic..m sure she didn't do all crazy things for attention it was her way of expressing her emotions and style..just that she did it fantastically and had people go gaga over her..she stopped all these when ARTPOP era made her realise people didn't care for her talent at all..people only remembered her crazy outfits..best example is VMA 2009 PAPARAZZI performance..that is one of the best performance ever but not many people know about it in GP. That's why she released C2C and performed at OSCAR back to back which got her huge boost in public image though on a smaller scale...she didn't want to let go of momentum so she released JOANNE and not original LG5..she could have given a crazy gaga performance in superbowl but she kept it subtle and let her voice do the show... SO NO HER IMAGE WASN'T PUSHED.SHE DID ALL ON HER OWN. And it was a risk for lady gaga to even do those things in beginning.. Love it when you call me legs In the morning, buy me eggs
Reid LePage 4,830
put it this way, if stefani decided to just call herself gaga and be 'authentic', she's not being authentic. Lady Gaga is a theatrical hybrid created by Stefani, the person behind the aura is just a regular new york girl from the downtown scene who loves underground art and music culture
HairBow 599
"Lady Gaga," in of itself, is a performance. And also an extension of herself.
Glamourpuss 29,062
I Remember a time in about 08-09 when she said she was pissed off when people called her a persona because she just felt like she was being herself.
Decodekid 28,163
it's her and it's not, idk how to explain it Long Live Gretchen
QueenGa 682
She always says she doesn't like it when people call her by her actual name, only family or in bed is when she likes to be called Stefani, otherwise, it's Gaga all the way
LordEnigma 11,313
You guys - she’s a human and Gaga is made up. Yes, it’s her - but it’s still a persona. Just think if Beyonce came into the game as Sasha Fierce. It’s a marketing tactic and it worked 🤷🏻♂️
Melania K Trump 6,294
The funny thing is that if someone asked Gaga herself the same question she probably wouldn't be able to give you a clear straight answer either lol "Was I... Lady Gaga or was Lady Gaga... me? Something something one second I'm the reverse warholian expedition suddenly something something the reverse warholian expedition is me!" Current First Lady of the United States. Praying for my husband's death.
Didymus 34,379
Of course it was made up. That doesn't mean she "faked" all of it, or that there's nothing authentic about "Gaga" but it's obviously the result of label meetings about how to market her, this happens with every artist. If she really was this avant-garde genius she pretends to be, she wouldn't be making standard radio pop, like come on guys lol. The whole uniqueness of her (early) act was that she could make the music everyone else was making while presenting herself as a true artist: she could enjoy all the benefits the other successful pop stars were having with their hits, and she could be more successful because the audience was trained to think of her as "special" when, in reality, the only thing that was special about her were her outfits. The "fan idolizing" and devotion is an age-old trick to make more money and stimulate long-lasting commercial loyalty. Again, doesn't mean she hates her fans, but she probably wouldn't take the time to constantly pamper them if that wasn't part of her agreed on persona. And yes, this marketing design absolutely explains her flip flopping when it comes to era's and persona's. It's time for LMs to realize (a long overdue realization) they're stanning for a pop star, not a free artist. Gaga is tied to an extremely detailed contract designed to make her label (and her) the most money. She signed it, and knew full well what she was getting into. If she was this truly free spirit connaisseur artist so many people here like to paint her (as if there's something wrong with being just a partly manufactured pop star - I wasn't aware that made you less talented or interesting; in fact, Gaga becomes so much more interesting when you look at her realistically) she would've said **** you to Interscope and stayed on the Lower East Side in the underground music and art scene. But she didn't. Because she wanted fame and money. Just look at her earliest The Fame interviews. Poor girl doesn't know what she's talking about and is basically trembling and stumbling trying to explain the album's concept. She got better at selling her brand. And sometimes she didn't even hide it. She literally called herself the greatest "con artist" of fame. There you have it.
TheGagaOfItAll 178
I just think it's an element of her multifacetedness tbh. Nobody's gonna heal me if I don't open the door
migamiga 12,101
it's a side of her that was magnified for her career. it's clearly not her 24/7 as she use to state, but it is her. just like how i identify with the gaga persona, but that isn't all of me and that's not me all the time
dit 46,423
I mean she herself recently called it a persona or something like that. What I think it is is that Gaga is an extension of Stefani. It's still very much her just an "elevated" version of her. So not really an alter ego or persona but more so an extension of her. Stefani is Gaga and Gaga is Stefani if that makes any sense
