Black Panther was OK

Alright. Lemme just start by saying, I don't dislike the movie. I just don't think it's that good. As someone who is obsessed with movies, and in love with the marvel franchise, I had incredibly high standards for this (which probably attributes to my disappointment to an extent), therefore when I saw it, I thought it was a let down.

One of my favorite youtubers summarizes my problem with it

But if you don't wanna watch it, my basic issue with it is three things.

1. There is no subtlety. It's just so obvious with it's message. There is nothing clever about it, nothing unique (apart from the visuals and setting but story telling wise it really isn't). It is more show than tell. Furthermore, I think it's trying way too hard to be more than a super hero movie, even though the first twenty minutes or so, it is a standard, run of the mill superhero movie. I thought the tone was all over the place, and when it was serious, it appeared corny and try hard. It's either you go marvel or you go The Dark Knight. I can see where they are trying to involve important themes, and I applaud that, but it comes off as try hard and to be very honest, appears like virtue signaling. There is no artifice with it.

2. The CGI. God. THE CGI. I just thought some of it looked like it came from Spiderman 3. ESPECIALLY when they fell into a cave. I won't spoil. Also I wishhhh they used animatronics for the actual animals in the movie, like the rhinos and stuff. I mean, Jurassic Park did it 20 years ago and it still looks better. Plus they had a 200 million dollar budget, so there is no excuse.

3. the marvel humor is getting old. The silly one liners. It's just old. Ik this may not be black panther's fault entirely, but still. Some of the jokes were dated memes too that made me cringe. I won't spoil.

My biggest problem is that it is suppperrrr overrated. The ratings are crazy. It is the highest rated superhero movie even though I think The Dark Knight or even Logan are far more superior, with their story telling and character development. With that comes the crazy twitter fans who call critics out for being racist if they give the movie a bad review. It's just non-sense. IT'S NOT THAT GOOD GUYS. I'm not African American or of African decent for that matter, so I can't speak for them, but why are you all acting like this is your holy bible. I get praise and adoration but when you drag people and CRITICS (it is their job) for disliking the movie, that is going too far. Plus, I can name you a ton of black empowering movies with an African American lead, Django, Get Out, MIB, Lean on Me, Poetic Justice. I get it though, kudos for Marvel for finally doing this cause it is long over due. BUT stop treating the movie like god's gift to earth, there are so many other movies/super hero movies that deserve that title more.

It's good, it's great, I can respect that. But it is not the best.

It has some great aspects to it, namely the cast, the design, and the overall heart of the piece. But yes, the action scenes could have been more cohesive and the CGI was very suspect in parts.

High King

So basically you think it’s a great film, but not perfect. That’s pretty much the general consensus anyway.

It’s easily the best effort from Marvel, and it’s a cultural milestone, which is definitely something to celebrate.

I thought it was overrated for sure, but I thought the movie was great. My biggest issue with this movie was Michael B Jordan. My God, he was not a good actor imo. Maybe he was written poorly, but I thought he was awful. However, I really like that the movie had a lot of style, I LOVED that car chase scene so much, but some story aspects did seem a little messy

holy scheisse

Some good things:

The cast were phenomenal. And you could feel their chemistry. Great relationships on and off screen.

Some great acting. I laughed, cried, and sat on the edge of my seat in suspense.

Loving the concept of afrofuturism. Such a great movie to show black futures rather than dwelling on black history.

I thought it offers something interesting. Some people want to seek vengeance on their former oppressors (the colonizers) while others want to learn to live in harmony. It really is relatable and a good question of morals. I thought it offered something interesting and the symbolism of all the characters was unreal.

And wakanda is dope af. A black nation that was never colonized.... Such a fantastical movie! 10/10

I thought it fell somewhere in the middle for me. I think the reason why a lot of people like it is that Killmonger is the only interesting villain since Loki. The supporting cast of females were also very good. loved the sister and the queen. but yeah i liked it, but it fell apart towards the ends. felt like there was no climax or no connection to the bigger MCU. especially since its the last movie until infinity war...
