rumours 45,521 Posted February 24, 2018 Share Posted February 24, 2018 Florida policy makers have created a bill meant to allow residents “to review and recommend instructional materials to be used in schools.” Those opposes to the bill state that it will allow “creationists, climate-change deniers”, and others to inundate school boards with complaints about school curriculum. “The documents state that educational materials should be “balanced” and “noninflammatory”, but they don’t specify who decides whether something is inflammatory”. There are concerns that language used in the documents would permit groups to file complaints just on the basis that they are “opposed”, giving religious groups not only free reign to complain but also more influence on curriculum in public schools. Edonis 28,974 Posted February 24, 2018 Share Posted February 24, 2018 As someone who is a Muslim grad student (in Biology ) I will gladly oppose creationism in the classroom, particularly in science classes where that has no business being taught in there. If you’re taking a world cultures class or human geography course and are learning about religions around the world, maybe. But Science? No. It’s fascinating to me that so many in the US don’t believe in evolution.
