Lady Gaga has described accusations that she has copied Madonna's 1989 track 'Express Yourself' in her single 'Born This Way' as "retarded". ...

She added: "I am not stupid enough to put a record out and be that moronic. Why would I try to put a song out and think I'm getting one over on everybody? That's retarded."

I read the whole interview. Notice that NME's first sentence doesn't accurately represent the actual quote.

LUV Madonna & GaGa for that matter but why is that some of the M stans think everything Madge does is an "homage" and GaGa just does "rip offs"????? It's quite the hypocrisy that really is annoying. I think that's what puts some people off on both sides. Fashion, Music, & Art is a cyclic process, everything comes around and repeats itself & borrows from the next reinterpreting and re-inventing for the next generation. Nothing is original. I think Madonna is the Queen of this "cyclic process" and nobody better than her understands this and made a career based on it. She made things of the past her own and gave it the Madonna spin. I think nobody has come closer to understanding this is GaGa.

Thank u.

As long as this bull**** keeps going on, Madonnas fans will always come to her defense saying she did an homage whereas GaGa ripped off. It's frustrated too because its the same thing, just a different personalties take. GaGa would not be as successful as she is if she were just ripping off. I see her as a genius knowing this process just as good as Madonna did.

As for plagerism, Madonna may not have a song that sounds very familiar to another song, but her "Hollywood" video sure as hell "borrowed" without permission from another artist. :tea:

I'm just tired of seeing GaGa "picked"on, for lack of a better term. Just the way I personally see it. :(

I feel the shady comments r sometime as strong on GGD as on a regular Madonna forum. It used to be different here. Not referring to anyone inparticular.

Sometime in that interview she dismissed references drawn to Marilyn Monroe.

EDIT: around 12:20

She never says or insinuates she didn't appropriate Monroe's image. Her exact quote in the video you posted is, "We're very different people." Which is similar to what she says about Gaga as well. Edited by Farmboy

Yes, and equally annoying is the hypocrisy that complains about Twitter Monsters but seems unaware that Madonna stans have done the same thing to her rivals for decades.

I was thinking the same.

Monster's and GaGa r looked down upon while Madonna fans have been saints? I've been subject to some of the nastiest and cold hearted behaviour from adult (30-50) Madonna fans. So I don't get how GaGa gets a hard time for her fans.

I don't see Gaga as that "picked on". She's most often heralded in the press (witness critic reaction to her Fame perfume shot), she's doing great on the charts. If anyone is routinely picked on it's Madonna imo. Edited by Farmboy

But this is ageist - and who are you to determine what her lyrics looks and attitude speak to? I'm sure plenty of 35-55 year olds can relate to lyrics about divorce and having your money taken. In fact, much more so than teens...

Because Madonna never called comparison's to Monroe's imagery "retarded". And in fact, Madonna always was upfront about her appropriation of imagery from old starlets.

R u even a fan of lady GaGa? I've yet to see u remotely on her side about anything. U r gonna hold THAT against her? People get heated and use bad wording, its human just as it was an involuntary laugh from Madonna about mama Mae's rape, right?

Seriously. :laughga:

I'm talking amongst the fanbases and Madonna "calling her out". :nacho:

All stans, no matter what artist are ****ing loons. I am so sick of M fans being thought of as escaped mental patients who a--lyze everything Gaga does to find a minuscule M comparison. That is a very small group of people who do not represent this fanbase as a whole at all. I just had to say that.

I'm a fan of her music (through The Fame Monster, and maybe half of Born This Way) not as big a fan of the person since Born This way. Much the same way you feel about Madonna I feel about Lady Gaga. There's times when she's great and I love her. BTW promo tour performances for example. But the interviews this era were wretched and made my respect for her go down a notch. Also, I don't like Gaga portraying herself as a victim. You write an awesome song about strength (Scheisse) and then go out and it's like the opposite of what she preaches. I also do not like the way she handled the Born This Way fiasco by thanking Whitney Houston.

Madonna was always my number one favorite, but Gaga was my second favorite.

Ok you win, only Gaga is ever picked on. The press consistently praise Madonna and I'm blind. Edited by Farmboy

No they don't, but to say they pick on Madonna most is not only ridiculous, it's FALSE.

And I'm a Madonna FAN for the most part, but she's NOT the innocent picked on victim you're making her out to be.

^ mattyh I'd have to disagree. Gaga is actually kind of a media darling. Which is great. But Madonna is one of THE most hated women by the press, partially more intensified because of her age. Scathing left and right with her, always.
