I was just wondering about Gaga's commercial success through time and came across that thought

Talking about BTW as a movement and music-wise is off topic here as I was talking about Gaga's commercial strategy and what went wrong

Thank you, for real! I've been saying this ever since she started declining that it was all BTW's fault, not ARTPOP's...

There are good songs on the album, but overall the vibe is not appealing, and be honest, which one of you ever liked the cover?? 

Had she released Scheisse and HML, things could have been different, but that's all past now, we'll never know and all these what ifs will not provide any answer for us...

plus the album is f* incredible, there's no denying it's one of the main albums of the decade.

with this album she took a risk and became a real ARTIST in a time while her peers were simply being entertainers and concerned about staying on the mainstream.

BTW was ahead of it's time. it was ANTi, Lemonade, Witness and Rainbow b4 it was cool and that's the tea.

i don't care what yall say but the Born This Way album (the entire thing) is the reason I didn't kill myself all those years back.

It's the reason I'm living and thus, I will forever credit it as the greatest album she's released

But I was just underlining the fact that maybe people got it wrong blaming ARTPOP for the 'success decline' and that BTW was maybe the moment everything took another direction

kinda agree with OP + I think BTW Single and album was too noisy for GP that they lost interest for ARTPOP which is way more clean and mainstream friendly.

I think BTW is a great album. I also think Gaga could have spent more time spreading its positive message instead of trying to become the “biggest superstar ever in the whole world”. I’m sure you all remember she said BTW was gonna be the best pop album of the decade (something like this) before it came out. 

I love Gaga, but I think she’s only human and she was clearly infatuated with fame at that point. Someone said and it’s true, she was inescapable. She was everywhere, like it or not. She was always pulling stunts to be in the news, and though it may have worked at first, it became old really fast. I say this as an kind of a member of the gp. 👀

I’m a straight girl who lives quite a boring life. I know a little of how the gp’ mind works and for them it was too much at the same time. The images, references to religion, weirdness of it all, the not so humble stuff she said about herself. It drove people away. Alejandro may have started it, but BTW was when the gp really started to turn on her. 

Still, BTW the song still brings tears to my eyes sometimes. And I still think TEOG is one of the best songs she’s made (I acctually love the video 👀). I can’t say she wouldn’t have less success if she did things diferently. I guess we’ll never know. I know BTW is very important to a lot of little monsters and I know it saved lives. Maybe it just wasn’t supposed to connect to the gp anyway, and that’s not bad. It’s a very complicated discussion.

MR still isn’t as big as BTW was.

I get some of y’all dont like the sound of the song, but it was important. The phrase pretty much coincides with Gaga at this point. 

The era had questionable singles (Judas, MTNs promo) and odd behind the scenes stuff (TEOG video, firing Boomkack, etc) but it was a top notch era. 

ARTPOP was a mess because she was a mess. It was rushed and had management issues. The music was sub par and all over the place too. She didn’t even do that much promo.
