djBuffoon 12,123
There is a very clear reason he wasn't nominated: because other songs received more votes. End of story.
FfFfFfFF 56,057
The reason being the fact that his album is horrible.
Lizzie Jacobson 416
He should really learn to keep is mouth shut and just be thankful and grateful for his nominations that he did receive. I'm sure the Grammy's will be snubbing him plenty more in the future because of his mouth.
StrawberryBlond 14,880
He just doesn't stop, does he? His obsession with sales and chart positions is so ridiculous now. He got popular because of his "normal nice guy" persona and now he's shooting himself in the foot, showing his true colours. It just goes to show that self-proclaimed nice guys are just as self-obsessed as the vain players...they just show it in private. I can't get away with his overwhelmingly presumptuousness of thinking that he's going to get nominated in the future. Where does he get the nerve to say that out loud? It's precisely this attitude that ensures future nominations are slim. But contrary to what some of you are saying, while, yes, he could have been referring to the (admitted) racial diversification of the nominees, he could also be referring to the idea of "they're super successful now, so we hate them." Build em up just to bring em down, essentially. As Gaga fans, we know that well. Ed's at his commercial peak right now and he's reached the pinnacle of overexposure. When this happens, it's common for the public and media to flip the script and start saying that the artist is overrated and they're sick of their big hit now. Perhaps Ed's suggesting that the academy have grown to resent his success and punished him by reducing his nominations? Which is still big-headed to suggest and all, but it is a real human behaviour nonetheless. 21 hours ago, Supersonic said: DAMN - 95 on Metacritic Melodrama - 91 on Metacritic 4:44 - 82 on Metacritic Awaken, My Love! - 77 on Metacritic 24k Magic - 70 on Metacritic Divide - 62 on Metacritic Like.... I have no clue how one could even justify him being nominated for AOTY. Joanne being nominated for AOTY would have been more likely than Divide lmfao I hadn't actually looked up the score for all those albums and now I realise something - Lust For Life got 78, which would position it at above Awaken My Love. Yet, no nomination. Which is a crying shame as that album is the best of the year, in my opinion. And Rainbow got 81, which would put her right behind 4:44, but no nomination. So, with 67, why couldn't Gaga have got a nomination for Joanne, if they're prepared to leave better acclaimed albums out of the category? If Lana and Kesha got their place based on their scores alone, that would have made the nominations consist of 2 black men and 3 white women. Lana and Kesha also provided different music from the other nominees. Putting all this together, isn't that diverse enough? But no, because in the modern age, "diversity" is purely a reference to race, nothing more. Political choices when making nominations have no place in a music ceremony. Why is it when a black artist makes a good album, they expect it to get awards, yet you don't see swathes of white artists complaining when they make a good album that doesn't get nominated? Whites are stereotyped as being entitled but I never go into a competition expecting to win, nor does any other white person I know, humbleness goes a long way. Why should black artists get the nominations that they "deserve" but white artists are allowed to get stepped on and miss out on rightful nominations in order to advance these supposedly superior black artists? That is discrimination, just not the one we're taught to believe in. As a music lover, I don't care what colour someone's skin is, I just want good music. I believe that attitudes of holding black artists in a higher regard because they are black and forced diversification are destroying the credibility of music and ensures that some of the best music remains hidden. And personally, if I were black, I wouldn't like to know that I got a nomination/win because of diversity quotas, but rather because I was judged to be the best and nothing more. It's beyond me why minorities are happy with this new system of getting un-deserved nominations/wins, as long as they see someone like them winning.
