Imagine actively forcing hundreds of thousands of people into a war-torn country where they will undoubtedly face extreme hardships that will leave many dead, just because you don’t like other ethnicities/nationalities/races.

I have family this will affect :( I’m so sad right now

I know people that this will affect. They are relatives of citizens that came over after the earthquake. They had children here, who are now US citizens and have only known life in the US. These immigrants are law abiding, hard-working, tax paying members of society. They are involved in their children's school district and in their church.

Why don't we want people like this as permanent citizens? I'm pretty sure I know the answer.

Why were these people never given permanent  status? 17 years on a temporary status seems crazy.

TPS beneficiaries are granted authorization to work in the US and a reprieve from deportation. But outside of that, TPS doesn’t grant many other benefits; beneficiaries do not have legal permanent resident status, and while a small number of beneficiaries may be eligible for green cards through the sponsorship of a US citizen family member, the program is not intended to provide a path to citizenship.
