Swine is not made to be just enjoyable like most songs. It's not only a song, it's art, in the sense that it's supposed to make you feel something, and not something pleasant. Just like some paintings are not just supposed to be beautiful, some moviesare not just supposed to entertain you, they're supposed to make you react, to take you to the guts. And that's what Swine does.

It's about rape but it's not just a classic song like Til it happens to you, a beautiful yet simple ballad that makes you sad, makes you think about it etc... It goes further, it goes into something that is not often talked about. It talks about all the rage and disgust that she felt because of that, towards the rapist but also towards herself.

There's a typical dance beat, it reminds you of the songs that can be played at a party, at a club, you're just enjoying yourself because you're dancing, drinking, getting high etc... But in the middle of this, there's a creepy vibe that reminds you that it's actually about rape and there's something really unhealthy about that.

She said that it took her years to realize that what happened was wrong. She was in this state of ecstasy, thinking she was enjoying herself when she was actually suffering, she was trying to reject all that rage and disgust but only thought something was wrong with her. With this song she's finally rejecting it on the rapist, and getting all her feelings out.

You don't know how to feel about that song, whether you should be bopping, feel angry, scared, relieved, and that's what makes it great. You feel uncomfortable, and that's exactly how she felt all of these years.

That being said, I would have loved the Swinefest version instead of the studio version, for the intro and the instruments.
