‘Uptown Funk’ is one of the biggest hits in recent memory, but the single is proving to be an equally controversial case in the courtroom.

Producer Mark Ronson was recently sued for (allegedly) ripping off Roger and Zapp‘s 1980 classic ‘More Bounce to the Ounce.’

Now, another party has come to the legal roast, claiming the same…about a different song.

Details after the jump…

According to TMZ, female rap group named The Sequence are the latest accusers.

The trio claim their 1979 hit ‘Funk You Up’ (which became the third rap song ever to reach Billboard’s Top 50) was borrowed unlawfully.

In court docs, the group claims Mars and Ronson’s song has “significant and substantially similar compositional elements” of ‘Funk You Up.’

The ladies are requesting for a jury trial and unspecified amount of money from Mars — and Ronson.

I literally never heard of these people. They just want money and think they can use their coincidentally similar words as court fuel for a lump sum

I don’t hear any similarities.  Maybe they’re just sueing over the use of “funk you up” :madge:

Though for the first accusation, the rip off was kind of obvious imo

I'm guessing it's that they literally use the words "uptown funk you up" but...I hope they have medical insurance to put their arms back in their sockets 'cause that's a reach and a half :awkney:

You're stinky

I definitely hear similarities in both songs, 'More Bounce' and 'Funk You Up'. But I feel like all those elements like the guitar in the background, the beat, or the lyrics are pretty generic in funky music. If you search long enough you'll probably find 10 other songs than match this type. So I don't think Mark ripped anyone off but reached deep into the funky music box

And that's exactly why patent and author's right were created : so small businesses couldn't be ****ed up by big corporation.

OP : The 2nd accusation is quite a reach :emma:

inb4 Gaga is also sued for saying "Funk me downtown".

But really, Uptown Funk is fairly generic funk. Listen to anything by Herbie Hancock and it starts getting...well, funkier lol This is such a reach lololol
