Did Britney's career tank after Vegas, can Gaga's?

It’s not because of the residency, this is freaking ridiculous, ya’ll need to stop saying residencies are for stars who’s career died. It’s not the case with Britney or Gaga, Britney just stopped promoting her music after going to Vegas, let’s not forget she had a VERY successful era before the residency so her career obviously wasn’t over. I simply think Vegas is trying to change this image of them so they are bringing in newer stars so this stupid stigma can fade away. 

And also HOW RUDE to call other people’s career dead, that’s so disrespectful, you are literally canceling everything they have achieved through their hard work and shame them for still wanting to work and do what they love because oh my God it’s a residency. Like F off.

I hate to use this example, but Beyonce has managed to still be a force in a way that Britney isn't. Pink is doing well too. It's just mind boggling that one of the biggest pop artists of all time has an album debut at #4 after starting her gig. I do think some refer to Britney as a has been and a lot of that is Vegas and her non existence on the charts.

i don't think beyonce and britney are comparable tbh, beyonce serves vocals AND moves as well as good, relevant, innovative music and doesn't have the history of a breakdown and lip syncing behind her

pink had a pretty big debut for her album, yes, but i'm pretty sure her singles didn't do that well at all (plus the album isn't even that good, very bland and generic, not like the old pink at all)

Vegas didn't damage Britney. If anything it kept her going when the public became uninterested. 

Also, we all know the woman that we are a fan of would never sit in Vegas chained to the theater and do absolutely nothing else whatsoever.  She's working on new music as we speak and her fans are melting down thinking that she is never gonna leave Vegas again.  It's two years, and not like every night. She can leave and promote new music. Lets be realistic, she isn't going on a new world tour in the next couple years anyway. So why is this such a problem?

This is a good thing for her health. She is in a lot of physical pain and this may be good for her. Similarly, if more younger artists follow Britney/Gaga/Bruno's suit then imagine how interesting that would be for Vegas.

So no, I don't think that this Vegas thing will hurt Gaga's career at all. If anything it will keep her relevant while she works on a new album, and possibly has a child or something.

As much as I love britney, she's sadly a heritage act now. People see her for her and the nostalgia of her hits and sometimes her new hits.

Unfortunately Britney is a fantastic dancer/performer, but not a great vocalist (though I understand some would disagree). She can't adapt as well as someone like Beyonce, Pink, or Gaga to the changing music scene.

Speaking as someone who lived the Britney explosion (I was like 9 and was f*cking obsessed with her btw), Vegas had nothing to do with her chart performance. Her lack of vocal ability did. Also a lot of her initial rabid fanbase grew up and onto artists that they viewed as more talented/interesting (myself included). Vegas can't be blamed for her waning star status. It was already headed that way before she even had a residency there. 

I also am not trying to be shady. Again, I was a huge Britney fan when she first came out and loved her to death. I just grew up and into an actual "music" fan who enjoys the craft of songwriting and performance. I don't just care about catchy pop hits.

Beyonce and Pink put actual thought and craftsmanship into their work tho.

Britneys last few albums feel very much like "oh I need to get an album out by next week, let's call some producers"

Let’s not underestimate how much Beyoncé’s marriage to Jay-Z has helped sustain her relevance. I’m not saying she isn’t worthy in her own right, but it’s impossible to gauge where she would be today without that aspect of her overall appeal and credibility.

 This is so true.  no shade to Britney, but Gaga has a much broader landscape of music,  work ethic and want for growth.   This is a great move and will propel her in the long run

She hasn’t done any type of promo for either of her two newest albums.

Britney is also a pop icon with 20 years of history behind her. She doesn’t need to promote anymore. She hasn’t been on the radio actively since 2011. The Vegas gig gave her some coin and press, and I believe it was pretty successful.

I think it’s just being used better now. Less huge sparks and more of a slow, sustained burn. Like, she seems happy about touring and making music, but seems more chillaxed about it than she did during, say, BTW. Like, I don’t think she’s feeling pressure about it anymore which tbh I think works with her creativity better. Pressure’s never been her strong suit (ARTPOP album and era).
