It's so sad that "monsters" see young eccentric high energy 22-25 years old Gaga as nothing but a "gimmick".

She was literally dropped from Def Jam for being who she is.

Gaga is still as "Gaga" as ever. 

It's not a gimmick, it is who she is as an artist. Sure maybe her approach is evolving due to time and team changes  but that does not make the way she was before a gimmick.

Have you seen the Anderson Cooper interview that she did a couple years back? She basically says that what she did and what she wore on her body was meant to capture people's attention. The only thing she didn't do was say the word "gimmick" ...

If you read what I wrote, I said that she was a gimmick early in her career and in order to rise to fame, her artistry and her talent had to take a backseat. I never denied its existence anytime in her career ... all I'm saying now is that the world sees and respects her talent because it isn't blinded by the gimmicks.

As much as I go over it in my mind, the "gimmicks" had too much heart to merely be written off as a "gimmick".

I'm sad to say I didn't come out of the kindergarten with a self-bleeding bra, so no, I don't think that comparison applies.

I mean, either way, does it really matter? It's a case of either she was being herself or she was being a genius business woman. The haters can say it was just a "gimmick," but at the end of the day, it worked. Gaga is a legend. Fight me.

Really interesting point. Yeah I think at some point in TFM era she started dressing "weird" just because it was great for her, comercially speaking. HOWEVER, I do believe she liked all of that and to transform all the time. After all, she lives for art and creating fantasies for fans AND general public (she said that a lot of times even in the Joanne era).

So was it a gimmick to gain attention? Probably

Was it her way of expressing herself? Totally

the thing is she could "authentically" have been who she was then, as she is now.  There is no contradiction, and real artists will explore different aspects of themselves and their own lives, and let the current life impact their current art.

I don't think you read what I wrote because if you did, you wouldn't come away with the assumption that I thought that she was "nothing but a gimmick" ... Had you read what I wrote, you would have realized that I did and still do believe she is a true artist since the beginning.

Gaga did what she had to do to get to where she is now. Call it like you want, but everything she did was what SHE wanted to do - not because it was for attention. That's pretty much saying that her first 3-4 years were all a publicity stunt and her main goal was to have people think that she was weird. People knew she had a good voice, they knew that she was talented, they just didn't want to admit it because she's Lady Gaga.

Would you want Gaga, now 31, doing the same s/hit she was doing when she was 22/23?
