Confessions On a Dance Floor has sold over 15 million copies worldwide since its release (11/9/2005). It peaked at number one in 40 countries, earning a place in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records as the album topping the charts in most countries. It also won a Grammy award as the “Best Dance/Electronic Album” in 2006.

Rescuing 70s disco glamour and an Olivia Newton-John look, the Confessions era started off with Hung Up - which became one of Madonna’s biggest hits - and one of the most fun videos to watch!

It chronicles people from all walks of life (professional dancers, street dancers) from all over the world (somewhere in Asia, Los Angeles, and Paris) rehearsing/getting ready for a dance-off that would take place in some underground club in London.

MUSIC AND LYRICS

Confessions on a Dance Floor is a full-on dance, electronic and disco record,[9][10][11] which is structured like a nightly set composed by a DJ. The music starts out light and happy, and as it progresses, it becomes intense, with the lyrics dealing more about personal feelings, hence "Confessions".[1][9] According to Madonna, "[t]his is the direction of my record. That's what we intended, to make a record that you can play at a party or in your car, where you don't have to skip past a ballad. It's nonstop."[2]Madonna used samples and references of music by other disco artists.

CRITICAL RECEPTION

Confessions on a Dance Floor received positive reviews from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 80, based on 28 reviews.

LEGACY

The Confessions era not only became highly successful both critically and commercially (The Confessions Tour was the biggest tour of 2006 and is still among the most successful tours of all times), but it is also regarded as a key factor in the diffusion of Parkour in popular culture across the globe.

I've actually never listened to the album in full, so I'm doing that now. My favorite track is probably Jump or Hung Up.

Forbidden Love is also a favorite of mine. Madge is the original queen of having two songs with the same name. Wig flew again.

It was supposed to be the 5th single (didn't happen eventually) because it's a fan favourite. It's SO good.

The singles off this album are all BOPS. Get Together deserved to chart higher. I like it a lot more than Sorry.

If I had to choose the faves that I actually still listen to, they'd be:

LET IT WILL BE
Forbidden Love
Like It Or Not

And then the b-sides/unreleased/bonus tracks Fighting Spirit and History.
