US Charts Discussion

So I recently heard Carly Rae Jepsen's most recent solo single, Curiosity, and it's damn catchy! I prefer it to Call Me Maybe any day. It's only charted in Canada so far (as of now, it's peaked there at #18), and I don't even know if it's been released elsewhere yet, but do you think it'll be a hit here in the US?

-----

P!nk's new single is pretty good, although I'm having to get used to the screechy part during the chorus. I really wish Lights and Titanium would do better, they're both really good songs. I'm neutral about Wide Awake. I will say that I'll be more satisfied with that being number one than, say, Payphone or Whistle. Yes, the latter two are catchy, but at least the former has some meaning to it. I'm not gonna lie, I don't particularly fancy Cher Lloyd's song. It's just...not my type, I suppose. I'm hoping that Some Nights will hit the top ten on iTunes by tomorrow. It's actually pretty good. Still hoping for more success for We Run The Night! It practically has no artistic value to it, but it's extremely catchy, and is great club music. I'm honestly somewhat surprised it hasn't smashed yet. Hope Chasing The Sun and Dark Side get up on iTunes as well! I really just can't wait for new music from GaGa. I'm really hoping it smashes, but still exposes her artistic integrity to the world, as have many of her past singles.

This thread will ALWAYS veer to other artists charting in-between Gaga eras. Because until Gaga's next single, there's nothing to talk about.

So rather than a mod having to come in and say the same thing every 3 pages, we should open a separate US Charts thread in the Music section. That keeps it easy, one thread for Gaga, one for general charts talk.

We tried that and It didn't work

Yeah it's definitely boring. I feel bad for songs like Back In Time that couldn't break top 10, but clearly deserved so. It was in the top 10 on iTunes for a long time, but the new rules prevented it from ever cracking top 10 on Hot 100. I don't like the song, but can't deny it completely got the shaft.

Were the new rules in place during MTN?

Considering radio isn't Gaga's strength I'm scared it's going to affect her single during the next era.

No, it started the week Boyfriend was released. If Gaga doesn't have radio backing this next era, then she's screwed. Edited by Klou

Yeah, looking at MTN's and Judas' airplay worries me. What would they have peaked at if the rules had been put? :deadbanana:

Those last charts news are so boring and depressing. I don't remember the last time I thought music sucked so badly. I think we've reached a peak this summer 2012. Nothing to look forward in the pop/top40 world of music. No creativity at all here just people whoring their ass to produce, again, the same **** type of song we've already heard 50 times.

Not here for that.

My station just introduced Wide Awake with "and now new music from Katy Perry."

Lot of stations are late adopters and wait for songs to be thoroughly market tested before playing them.

My station just introduced Wide Awake with "and now new music from Katy Perry."

Lot of stations are late adopters and wait for songs to be thoroughly market tested before playing them.

My local station did that with Marry the Night, it pissed me off so much.

z100 was playing it daily but this other station, after I kept calling to request, said "We're not playing that yet, we're testing it out, we'll see if listeners like it."

I can try to do some calculations later to see what they would be at compared to what's charting now.

Thanks, you don't have to but it'd be nice to see where'd they place

Whenever an artist has a new single don't stations always say it's new music?

Like my station said that in May with WHYB was released to radio.

Using Magoo's calculations of *points = 62% x sales/K + 80% x airplay (A.I. millions) + 5% x on demand streaming/K, Judas would be around as follows if it were charting now(Magoo, feel free to correct if you see errors). This number reflects when it was at its peak (debut weekend).

#16 162 + 14 + 5 (estimated) = 117 Judas

If someone can provide me with current sales and AI for the songs over #20, then I can estimate Marry The Night.

The meltdowns :smh:

99% of her fans are oblivious or don't know the affects the new rules could have on her charting. I'm almost tempted to start a new thread just to get everyone aware of what impact the changes could have on Gaga.

So true. I encourage you to do it right before she starts charting again. Maybe a week before we get the single.

I can't at "stans" that illegally download her music
