Janet was also a big target because of her brother at the time. Public opinion of Michael Jackson around that time was almost at an all time low. just 3 months prior Michael Jackson had been arrested for child molestation. And the Living With Michael Jackson documentary came out in which Michael said he had children sleep in his bed. Michael said he was betrayed by the director.

He faced allegations twice, once in 1993 and then his court case in 2005 for his 2003 arrest. 

He was never convicted though, however public opinion is that he was.
