You wonder why we're having shootings, and killings here in 2017? Because some people have no access to mental health care, because some people can walk into a store and buy a gun? He's disgusting. These comments made by him are offensive towards the people killed in (school) shootings and survivors. A new level of stupidity and delusion. What else to expect from a republican?

2. The president swears on the bible at the inaguration

3. There are a bagillion churches in america

All I am saying by this post is that America is not a "secular nation". I am not saying that religion should be involved with politics but just that this nation is mostly religious. Whether christian or not, there are a plethora of non secular religious people that outweigh secularists.

The whole "separation of church and state" thing and our nation being built on the very idea of free thought and freedom from oppressive religious regimes. It wasn't until the 1950's when "The Red Menace" showed up that people wanted to show a strong Christian front in the face of communism. Then they added "Under God" to the pledge, "In God We Trust" on the money, and it became important for politicians to have some kind of Christian faith.

Religious citizens have always been here though  But people will be people I guess. Let's just be glad most are decent.

Despite all that though, this is still a secular nation where religion doesn't belong near government and no god has any power within our borders

You know they're only saying this to pacify the larger and larger crowds concerned about gun control, but without upsetting their donors. As much as I hate them using religion like that, it's smart, I'll give them that. It's an easy out instead of crafting legislation and doing the jobs they were voted to do.
