ClariceStarling 1,020
Huffington Post: Lady Gaga’s Documentary Explores Loneliness, Madonna And A Quest For Lifelong Fame Netflix’s “Gaga: Five Foot Two” is a fun, fascinating peek backstage. Lady Gaga’s new documentary, “Gaga: Five Foot Two,” opens with a shot of her, suspended in midair. Only her bottom half is visible, emphasizing the sparkling stiletto boots that adorn her legs. She’s about to be hoisted toward the sky for a grand entrance at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, where she rappelled onto the stage. That flashy footwear is a pop signifier: An artist so famous for eccentric shoes doesn’t require a torso to look familiar. There’s added irony in the fact that Madonna made the seminal pop documentary, 1991′s sterling “Truth or Dare,” which followed her celebrated Blond Ambition Tour. Many others have attempted their own versions since, mostly to lukewarm results ― Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Beyoncé and Oasis, to name a few. None are as electric as “Truth or Dare.” The same goes for “Five Foot Two,” though it comes close. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/gaga-five-foot-two-review_us_59b3d9cee4b0354e4412245c?ir=Entertainment&ncid=tweetlnkushpmg00000027

asana15 16,648
Music and celebrity are two of the favorite subjects of members of the documentary branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, so Gaga: Five Foot Two, a compelling Netflix documentary feature about Lady Gaga, one of the most talented and enigmatic music artists of her generation, could wind up in the awards conversation. The 1991 doc Madonna: Truth or Dare was thought to have come very close to landing a best doc feature Oscar nom — and it didn't have Netflix behind it. This year, there are, as always, several very good music-related docs out this year that are worth keeping an eye on. Nick Broomfield and Rudi Dolezal's powerful Whitney Houston doc Whitney: Can I Be Me is one of them, and now there's also Gaga: Five Foot Two. Wixson 5,004
BBC: "All of her media manipulation doesn’t negate her message about personal acceptance for women and men. But let’s not be naïve. Gaga: Five Foot Two is a carefully designed delivery system for Gaga: Now I’m Serious." ★★★☆☆ Full review: http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/20170913-film-review-does-lady-gaga-deserve-a-documentary
