I totally agree with what you said about how not everything having to be political. Fun songs are not less valuable than political songs. But I don't think people are talking about 5H and Taylor because they displayed fun songs. They are talking about 5H because they shaded Camila Cabello and about Taylor because of the whole Katy/Kanye drama.

I haven't seen anything about the drama. I've seen some people mention Taylor's video and Pink's speech on my timeline. Other than that, they didn't care about the rest, I guess. Maybe you are looking in places where high drama is the norm...so that's all you are seeing.

It's just current events and that's what you gotta speak on to be heard and poplular...artists take advantage of it all the time and yesterday was cringeworthy with how many "fake" moments there felt...

It just wasn't entertaining though.  Kendrick was the only who made his message entertaining.  The rest of the show felt like stuff we have seen on the internet over and over. I just feel we need a break from all the political crap.  Anything drama related would have been entertaining.   I look forward to the VMAs every year because of the entertaining drama and they keep disappointing.  Being entertaining is a nice break from all this mess.  This year's VMA's and last year's failed.

If you want political messages, a music awards show isn't the place you should be looking. There's different viewpoints on the "celebrities being political" angle and I'm not against it but it can get a bit much, especially when they're all at it. And especially when some people don't say political stuff all year yet when awards season comes around, they're suddenly acting as if they're soooo politically active.

The only thing that this ceremony tells you about society is that it's all about success over good music, relevancy over good music, 'diversity' over good music, paid-for awards over good music. Fifth Harmony winning the award for Best Pop Video over the videos from Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes, which had mega views and mega likes (Ed's got over 11 million likes and Shawn's got over 1 billion views) as opposed to their shocking 39 million views and less than 800k likes in 3 months proved that some awards are paid for by management desperate to make certain artists happen. Gaga smashed FH's current stats with Million Reasons and she didn't even get a nomination. And Kendrick Lamar being nominated for the most awards with 8 noms and taking home 6 of them proves that minorities are not overlooked or underrespected in the music industry like we're meant to believe. Not saying that to be racist, it's a statement of fact.

How you took this topic and turned it into a chance to preach a pro-vegan message blows my mind. You're fine to eat what you like but don't push it on other people, especially when it's massively off-topic. You do vegans a huge disservice when you perpetuate this perception of them bringing up their diet any chance they get and attempting to make others feel guilty for living differently.

The VMA happened last night and although it wasn't great I believe it was better than what we got in the last few years. The main theme for the night appeared to be social issues. On one side, Katy Perry tried to incorporate those issues in jokes about Trump and how people are handling it but they all fell flat and all we got was shots of audience members feeling awkward with the whole situation.

On the other side, Kendrick made a statement about police brutality, Pink talked about gender conforming issues, Paris Jackson made a shy but direct statement about white supremacists, Alessia Cara sang about self-acceptance, Logic sang about teen suicide and called the media out, etc. I know this is a trend and some people might take advantage of that to sell records but you can't say that's not a great thing having artists talk about these issues on mainstream media.

But while we have these great messages all people seem to care about is Taylor Swift's and Fifth Harmony's petty drama. Do you think society pretends to care about those issues but only wanna see artists fighting amongst themselves about petty things? Start the drama, stop the music?

the VMA's have always been about shock factor.  2003 the iconic Madonna performance with Xtina and Brit got lots talking, etc.

You are free to get as offended as you like but I seem to remember the question was asked why people weren't quite with  it so I very kindly tried to help. As for the representation of minorites the only thing I noticed was that men seemed to be underrepresented doing the hosting bits. There was like 10 or so people doing segments and only one of them was on his own and talking about someone dieing and then they used that to plug a cell phone in the middle of the photo. pretty shocking really how many plugs there were for cell phones but to use someones death that was really bad. I liked Alessia Cara her message was good and the crowd seemed to like it. Miley was good she sings well nice and clear some people you can't really make out what they are saying which is probably just aswell. There was another male host or what ever who had like a tshit about killing presidents why couldn't they get a girl to where that if they really think it is an idea to put such tshirts on tv. this is so sexist and effects perception of men.

I just dont think objectifying women is acceptable (or charachterising men as only interested in one thing) same as I find electro-magnetic objectification of young people offensive. It causes electro-magnetic penetration without concent. Shape of you is obviously just about the body it is not good at all. that isn't love and the video is another advert for cell phones. this is really messed up they are trying to emotionally attach people to technology like they plug the phone in the photo of the dead guy just after the heart warming speech and have the cellphone in shape of you attached to the "love" encounter. It is catchy I suppose but that doesn't make it good nor does a large number of people liking something in a sick society make something good. It doesn't even make any sense he is supposed to be in a bar talking to someone and they put a text message in the video. really if you analyze it this video is promoting sex robots or something in a sort of subconcious level.

This is  a good video. The lyrics towards the end are something like "love is the strongest force".
