Trump Will Not Allow Transgender People In The Military

This is absolutely disgusting and so are the transphobic comments agreeing with it. His explanation was horrible and honestly I don't even know what to say. I'm kind of heartbroken. Even though I would likely never join the military, I want it to be a choice and I want there to be full equality. This is not a step in that direction.

I wanted a president that focused on the free market and had common sense values. Not one that pandered to fear mongering evangelist conservatives, sexuality and gender identity-ignorant individuals, and media-manufactured issues such as the bathroom bill. This is just wrong.

I can see why allowing trans people in the military may cause disruption, confusion, and increased costs. I understand that. But I feel that it is entirely based on the assumption and stereotype that trans people are intrinsically liberal-minded and enveloped in identity politics. That's the sort of mentality that my dad uses to support trans people's exclusion from the military. People need to realize that trans people are not one-dimensional and do not all fit under the media-popular umbrella of mental illness, extreme social justice, non-passability and ultraliberal dogma. People do not seem to believe that trans people are human beings independent of their gender identity and that they can be involved in the military without being obsessed with self-importance and the undying need to be super duper special and individualistic.

It also disgusts me when conservatives believe liberals are the only ones pushing identity politics. It absolutely abhors me that these bathroom bills keep getting pushed by right wingers. Republicans need to stop pretending they're the bastion of LGBT acceptance and rights. Because as many as there are tolerant and accepting, you can bet your ass just as many consider me mentally ill and in need of institutionalization. And it's all to appeal to what? The religious? The very epitome of American morality that we so push high into the sky as the golden standard of all that is good? The kind that we propagandized into the U.S. government to serve as a moral foil against the soviet union during the cold war? The kind we somehow present as a high ground above Islam's intrinsic LGBT-phobic values? Don't get me wrong, Christians aren't killing gays in the streets and they aren't creating as extreme laws, but if we're going to have any sense of moral superiority in this country, we should at the very least show solidarity with all that corrupt, morally bankrupt religions oppose.

This is ridiculous yet unsurprising. His response was absolutely horrible and provided no sufficient or proper explanation whatsoever.

Unless he gets impeached not much will change. Hopefully he doesnt get a 2nd term.

Another question I have to ask is how much money does the military actually need? :deadbanana: We already spend, what? 4 times as much as the next strongest military (China)? A few hundred billion shy of a trillion dollars goes towards our disgustingly over-inflated and over-funded military and you're telling me you can't spare 8 million dollars for the well being of people who are willing to serve? :smh:

This coming from a draft dodging bigot. Laughable.

Sexuality and gender identity are different, but that doesn't mean we're not all apart of one community.

Also, only over a million people in America consider themselves transgender, and I'm sure a much smaller percentage of that population want to enter the military, so the "cost and logistics" thing doesn't make sense to me. Like, you could spend all the money on uniforms, weapons, etc. etc. and the men and women themselves, but when it comes to transgender people it's like "Oh no, we can't do that because of logistics and stuff," that's complete and utter bullsh*t.

If you are that convicted to join the military then you naturally would irregardless of whether you identify as your opposite gender or not. Why should the military compromise costs to cater to transgender privileges because like you said the percentage is so minimal, and more importantly it shouldn't be an issue in military circumstances. Simply pick a gender and perform your duty, it is and should stay as a secondary matter. But that's just my humble opinion. Of course medical and logistics are not the only complications- how the rest of the soldiers perform/engage socially with one another in the presence of transgender plays a role too and i think it's fair to let such social issues stay out of the military.

How the hell is this any better than what he said? Or someone else told him to delete his life... What are you trying to prove here? That you are as bad as he is?

So, you believe people with transphobia should get free pass from ridicule? No way, sister! Not in my world.

Maybe a free pass from bodily harm being wished upon them since that does no good for anyone

a phobia is an irrational fear of something.  Not wanting tax payers to pay for this kind of treatment is not irrational.  I'm not transphobic....just transcautious

I don't agree with anything that GGD member (I f#cking hate Trump) said, but whats the point of of putting him or her on blast. what exactly does that accomplish besides inciting hostility.  Maybe next time just send him a PM with the thread and article. We don't need to gang up on GGD members like an angry mob.

That's not the only thing he said though. He completely banned transgender people from the millitary.

They will not be able to serve. He could have just said the millitary won't pay for transition medical costs.

If Trump skipped a couple of his weekend vacations then we could afford medical care for trans* soldiers for at least a year.

Just to put things in a different perspective :awkney:
