Well that's a substantial loss and really made an impact so...terrorism, I guess I think I've just attributed the word to an extremist group actually plotting or organizing something something, using bombs/guns, and trying to gain something in the way of political power, social control, or material gain. Usually all three and usually at the expense of dozens of lives.
