Ugh, tired of bland s**t getting to #1. Seriously, UK? You make dance music #1 for the last few years and then you make boring-ass Mirrors #1? Just why? Artists have released much more exciting songs recently and they haven't got anywhere. There's a reason why the rest of the world isn't giving this song the time of day - it sucks.

I have to say, When I Was Your Man is one of the few songs from Bruno Mars's album that I actually like but I'll be jumping for joy if he doesn't get one #1 this year. Then we might be one step closer to getting ride of him completely. I don't like it when songs that I think are on their way out suddenly get a second chance just because of one measly performance. This is the UK - you have one chance and one chance only to get a #1. I hope that Gaga's upcoming singles get the same treatment when they're on their way out and she performs on Jonathan Ross.

Nicole Scherzinger releases Boomerang at the end of next week and she's already promoted it on Comic Relief. Anyone predict a #1? I mean, I hope not (I can't wait to see the back of Nicole) but it's mega radio friendly and she'll have her fame from XF to carry it and she got a #1 here previously...

My God, I sound like quite a b***h, don't i? I really wouldn't care who went to #1 if it didn't result in certain artists getting overblown egos and NEVER.GOING.AWAY.

He got #1 with a song completely different to anything out at the moment, that's not boring. The actual reason it's not doing well with the rest of the world (except for Germany) is because Suit and Tie is being promoted everywhere else.

I'd really love to know what your definition of "bland" is. Something that doesn't appeal to you? Because people that usually slate "bland" music tend to include Lana under that bracket as well.

You just kind of completely slate anything that goes #1 that you don't like. Music is subjective. Your word isn't actually gospel. I'm not gonna argue with you cos I like you but it's really annoying when you go in on music that is popular with the public just because you aren't a fan. I just think it's nice to see an artist with legitimate talent on top, aside from the fact I'm obviously a fan.

A song can be completely different from what's popular and still be boring. There's all different ways of being boring.

No, my definition of bland fits with the dictionary definition - boring, mundane, unremarkable. Of course, applying that tag to music is going to be subjective, but then, judging music is always subjective. In the case of Mirrors, I feel it's a song that meanders on with no purpose, it doesn't build up to anything, the lyrics are textbook and it's like Justin made a bet that he could get the song over the 8 minute mark because his new work seems to be unnecessarily long for the sheer hell of it. And I wish people would stop using retorts like "So says the person with a Lana signature." I find Lana's lyrics and musical compositions to be absolutely sublime and head and shoulders above everything else right now. If people don't agree with me, that's their opinion, but clearly if I'm talking about bland music while I'm a Lana fan, it means that my view of bland differs from yours. It feels like having a Lana signature around here is akin to having a Kick me sticker on your back.

Of course I'll slate stuff I dislike - music is there to be judged. But of course music's subjective and I never said my word was gospel. But it would be silly to put a disclaimer above everything I say with the words "This is just my opinion." I figure that should always be a given. I like reviewing music and unfortunately, a lot of the music around right now is not doing for me, so I'll be rather disgruntled. Is it really wrong of me to express that? As regards Justin, I'm disappointed that an artist so talented has lowered themselves to such soul-less, cliche music.

Petula Clark album debuted #24. I love her 60's stuff like Downtown and Don't Sleep in the Subway.

80 year old artist beat Xtina's Lotus debut.

15 - 15 - 60,700 - Ellie Goulding - Halcyon - 195,100 - 20/10/12 - 10

I happily surprise that Ellie's album has great legs, considering it's rocky start in the 4th quarter.

The US apparently has gotten the shaft, so I just follow Ellie on the UK charts now :flutter:
