StrawberryBlond 14,263
I think this proves that Adele actually has limited strength when it comes to single chart positions, at least in the UK. Someone Like You remains her only UK #1 which is rather surprising. It is clear that Adele will always be an albums artist and I don't predict much better chart positions for her in the future. A large portion of her fans are middle aged and elderly - a section of the community who rarely, if ever, download singles. They're more likely to pay for music, but only in album form. They're less likely to follow the news of an artist's upcoming album and therefore, won't know single release dates or have a clue about when is the best time to purchase it to ensure a #1. What we're doing now: posting iTunes updates, posting radio popularity bars, a--lysing possibilites of singles, etc. is a young person's game. Older generations really don't give a stuff about #1's so see no hurry to rush out to purchase a song immediately, even if they do have an MP3 player. Just like Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse before her, Adele's album appeals to a crowd who see no importance in buying singles. As such, album sales soar but singles, not so much, at least when it comes to chart positions. In other news, I can't believe how fast OD are falling. They looked so uncomfortable when they were invited onto XF to just stand there and say they had a new single out and then left. I thought it was the saddest promotional opportunity I had ever seen. Simon must be reeling that such unexpected songs have come out of nowhere to steal his protegee's joy. Even Leona, who people are starting to forget about somewhat, has overtaken them. And with no sign of a US #1 either, could OD fizzle out even sooner than predicted?

Harry 26,836
I think SHM are basically guaranteed #1 so far unless Adele miraculously gets a huge lead over them. They were #1 in the mids from Tuesday even when Adele had 1 or 2 days ahead on iTunes... I presume that's because of sales of their EP. So I would assume it would take Adele a lot to get ahead. Wish we had sales info to know for sure.

craig 680
According to OCC, Adele is 22k behind in the midweeks. Ellie will be #1 where it matters most: http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/ellie-goulding-on-course-for-second-number-1-album-1636/

StrawberryBlond 14,263
Releasing on a Friday is the key to avoid getting a UK #1 Is a Sunday or Monday the best time? I think it works best for the US and UK. The UK updates the singles chart every Sunday, so that would give the song a full week and Monday would give it just under a week. And the US updates their singles chart on Wednesdays, so a releasing on a Monday means it won't be eligable for that week's chart and has to wait for the next, giving the artist a whopping nine days to get that #1 and they likely will, because they have more time to gather huge sales. It wouldn't get 9 because the sales stop getting tracked for the next week's chart on a Sunday :)
Ozzy8923 9
Britney Spears and Will.I.Am will be shooting a music video for Will's newest single "Scream & Shout" (it was originally thought to be titled Sexy Sexy, those rumors have been disputed) on October 13 and October 14 and will feature male/female fire breathers and professional dancers. Yay! Anyways, this means that the single will be released around late October or November. Britney is not really popular in the UK anymore, her highest peaking single from her latest era was HIAM at #6 but Will has scored 2 Top 3 singles in the UK, his latest debuting at #1, so it should be nice to see her score a Top 3 single in the UK for the first time in 4 years since Womanizer and possibly her first #1 in the UK since 2004 (Toxic). Do you guys think it will do well? How is will.i.am performing in the UK? Does he get lots of sales and airplay? (I'm from the US, so I don't know how will.i.am performs in the UK minus what I mentioned in my post ).
TFMTom 0
Any idea/an update on Born This Way album sales in the UK? It seems to be selling on iTunes again (staying in the Top 100 on the Pop Section, as of now, currently higher than The Fame Monster) - not the best, but it's still selling.
