I can see Diamonds reaching its peak after the video comes out or when she inevitably performs it on the X Factor...

You know times are bad when I'm rooting for PSY and One Direction. If PSY can hold onto #1 for a second week or OD dominates for the rest of the week and into the following week, it looks like Rihanna won't get that inevitable UK #1 lead single. I'm not sure when she'll be performing on XF, but it won't be next week anyway (Leona and Ne-Yo will be doing that) and they'll probably put OD on in the second week to give the single that final push to #1 if it hasn't already or if it has, make it even more successful. This could mean that by the time Rihanna performs, the song will have already reached its peak. Her single isn't what the UK public like from her - they love her uptempo numbers that you can either dance to at a rave (hence the success of Only Girl and We Found Love) or mid-tempo songs you can do dirty dancing too (hence the success of Rude Boy and What's My Name?) Her ballads have traditionally not done well, even before the big dance craze started. I don't think the UK public know what to make of this song and they're confused by it. You can't dance to it and you can't get freaky to it, which is a foreign concept for a Rihanna single these days, especially a LEAD single. It probably has the public thinking: "Will the entire album be like this? Is she going all mellow on us? No more dance tunes?"

I have no doubt that Rihanna will get a top 10 hit out of this at least but even though I like the song, I really don't want this to go to #1. I don't want Rihanna to think that she can always get a #1 hit with her first single in the UK every time. She's got too used to it. If she had an album that had the success of BTW - 3 top ten hits, 2 top 40's, no #1's, less than 1 million sold after one and a half years, it might teach her lesson. If she had two flop albums in a row, maybe she'd actually go away for a while.

Rihanna and 1D only got a 10% lead over PSY the first day.

They needed more if they are going to beat it for #1.

I'll be surprised if 1D still don't end up being #01 on Sunday
