It's quite weird considering that, apart from WFL, her singles haven't sold well this era, especially in Britain. It's weird to see a Rihanna album with only one #1 one and one top ten in the UK. Gaga got three top tens and two top 30 hits in the UK, and her sales have struggled more than Rihanna's. Moments like these that I just don't understand my country. Particularly as Gaga's known to be an album seller and Rihanna is more of a single seller.

WHYB literally saved the album from being a complete disappointment here. It was basically selling fuck all before she released that as a single.

She owes Calvin Harris BIG time for basically saving the era from being a complete and utter dud.

Oh, and discounts have obviously helped

Well, I wouldn't say it was selling badly before, just kinda under expectations. The Coldplay collab was a major factor in boosting the album's sales out of nowhere and as WHYB was released at the same time, Rihanna got the great advantage of a double whammy of sales opportunities. This is why I hope Gaga will collab with another artist next era. I never understood why this would make the public buy the featured artist's album, but it's what happens so we may as well run with it. Unfortunately, Gaga's so selective with her collabs, unlike Rihanna, who'll collab with anyone who's hot at the moment. Yes, I forgot about discounts too. It was selling so badly that it had no choice.

Yeah, Calvin saved this album from being a total write off and an even worse flop than Rated R. I hope this made Rihanna realise that she is nothing without her commercial songwriters and producers and that she is at the complete mercy of them. Maybe we'll see a more humble Rihanna next time around, but I won't hold my breath. She's definitely taking a proper break and won't release a new album this year anyway. Guess we'll just have to see if a break will have the same negative effect on her career that the two and a half year break between GGGB and RR did. The difference is, though, that last time, she went on a break after a huge hit album. TTT was a moderate flop. No doubt there's severe career discussions being made at Def Jam.

Well, not badly, but very disappointing when you compare it to how well 'Loud' sold.

A break for Rihanna probably just means she won't release an album 12 months after her previous one, just a couple of months later. We'll see

As for POC, eh, I don't think that really helped that much. To be honest, it seems like it was only a big hit because its been 59p for weeks on end. It was put back up to 99p the other day...and it's almost out of the iTunes top 40. Very telling.

TTT is going to overtake BTW, but that was only because of the discount put in place. When Gaga is back in the country (in less than a month) the sales will rise. Hopefully a discount is in place as well.

To think, this time next month, Born This Way will most likely be back in the top 40 (20 perhaps with a discount) :flutter:
