ItsTommyBitch 12,640
As a self-professed anti-patriot, I actually don't care if this was deliberately a middle finger to marines or military forces - or if it was a direct comparison of struggle, which would be more than apt. That being said, its intentions seem fairly clear to me and people reading too far into it are being extra for alterior reasons, such as latent dissonance from the combination of "LGBT" and "Patriotism", or LGBT and American, as if there were no gay people in the military Either that, or "American" struggles are sacrosanct and above other measly struggles like the LGBT community faces. Again, stil not accounting for the reality that gay people serve in military, and also not all military action is justified. Come for me if you wish, I don't mind. 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

Ziggy 14,051
I think this would have been better as a painting depicting specific heroes to the queer movement. I find it abhorrent that this doesn't appear to have a trans individual, lesbian, or other member of the LGBTQA+ community besides men. Gay men have way too long been the face of the queer movement when historically it was other groups that have bore the brunt of the work for progress. I understand what they were going for and appreciate the effort to subvert iconography, but if it can only be done through attractive, shirtless men than is it really accomplishing what it is so ambitiously trying to accomplish? It feels more hollow than resonant in my opinion. It is well-composed, though. Sidenote to everyone: Never do vertical pictures, they almost always look bad or unprofessional. Go wider and do landscape to capture the scope and magnitude of everything.

And don't tell me they "do it for their country" no country needs murderers abroad. Armys are a mistake, specially in the hands of countries like the US, they've started more wars than they have finished. In this case, of WW 2, the war started in 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany and subsequent declarations of war on Germany by France and the United Kingdom. In December 1941, Japan attacked the United States and European colonies in the Pacific Ocean, and quickly conquered much of the Western Pacific. Yes, it was their choice to go and defend their country and fight for the freedom of others in Europe.

The original picture is a symbol of American triumph, and now these people are using the same composition to evoke LGBTQ triumph in the face of oppression/adversity. If you think standing up for yourself and freedom of speech is un-American/offensive to the spirit of America, then you clearly have no idea what America's supposed to be about i agree, it is just unneccesary to stir up **** about this. they are clearly doing an homage infused with their own message about freedom and equality, this is in no way disrespecting or diminishing the original message, actually it spreads the original message since i wouldnt know what this original picture was about exactly if i hadnt seen this homage. some people act like these gays are taking a literal piss on the original picture which they don't. このジョルノジョヴァンナ夢がある
