It's better to not give them an extra reason to bully someone (kids being bullied because of their cheaper clothes, which gives rise to bullying because their parents are poorer).

This specific example I agree they should be allowed to wear suitable clothing for the weather but getting rid of uniform all together is a much larger discussion.

This. Especially in younger years. I was happy everyone was equal. The last thing we need is kids showing off because they have branded clothes in school

I agree with school uniform because it reduces the whole problem of poorer kids being self concious in the clothes they wear to school, it definitely keeps school kids in focus of what they're learning more instead of what they're wearing, but strict school codes that stop boys from wearing shorts and girls from wearing trousers has to go, it does nobody any good

It is a relief for many kids who are poor. No one knows if you are wearing the same two or three skirts/shorts/pants/shirts all year...but you can't get away with doing that with street clothes.

Also, many kids like uniforms. They don't think it is "fun" to worry about what to wear everyday. Uniforms can be restrictive, but they can also be freeing. It takes something off of your plate to worry about...and for people that are extremely busy in high school, that is welcomed. 

Stop with the extremes- they do nothing to support your argument.

I had to wear uniform from Pre-K all the way to 8th grade. In high school there were no uniforms. Many other districts did this too. 

Many districts did not have uniforms at all. 

The professionalism argument is BS because if that were the case I'm sure they'd do the opposite and make you start wearing uniform in high school. 

Also no uniform in universities lol. Where's this "professionalism?"

Why would a person worry about to wear everyday? Just throw on something you like and are comfortable in. 

And yes you can get away with doing it in street clothes, I do it in street clothes every year. I'm not poor but I'm not into the whole fashion thing, I just buy 5 pairs shirts and shorts at Walmart at the beginning of the school year, and call it a ****ing day. It's not hard. 

It's not an extreme, if we force everyone to dress the exact same way to prevent bullying, what's to stop us from going even further?

Now let me state there are pros to uniforms! 

Such as it being cheaper than wearing regular clothes for poor families.

I had both uniforms and wearing street clothes, and I ended up preferring the uniforms. Kids complained at first, but then everyone ended up liking it more. Most kids don't want to worry about what they are going to wear at six in the morning. Grab the khaki or navy skirt/short/pants and throw on one of the approved polos and go. We didn't have a shoe uniform, but eventually almost everyone ended up getting the same type of shoes. It all ended up being a welcomed relief, for various reasons.

Thank god there's no such thing as school uniforms here, and neither a formal dress code at work, unless you go to a very formal meeting or sth like that  I'd die if I had to go to school or work in a suit every day

I cannot imagine wearing this **** every single day. 

At least uniforms in the US in most public schools are khaki or blue pants and a solid polo shirt. Oh, and we can wear shorts.

Because most people do. They have to buy things that match and look good together and are the latest style. Then they have to rotate the outfits, so they don't wear the same thing every week. 

No, you can't. If you are a junior high girl wearing the same two pair of pants and three shirts all year long, you are going to feel different. Some people don't have the money to buy five new outfits every season. Hand me downs are worn out or out of style. Uniforms don't go out of style. It is difficult for many people and it's something that makes them feel less than every minute of the day. You may not care about that, but many children and teens do...and there is an easy solution for all of it.

Because there have been centuries of kids wearing uniforms to school and it's stayed basically the same. No one is evolving to such extreme measures. That's just ridiculous.
