Male Students Rebellion Against Wearing Trousers On Hot School Days

According to the Uniform Code (and some headteachers), male students are forbidden to wear shorts on hot summer days and instead stick to black formal trousers.

Students, however, are rebelling against this "out of date" policy and decide to turn up to school in skirts instead in a heat protest stating: "girls are allowed to wear skirts all year round, they get cold legs, and we have to sit there sweating".

This surely must be considered, and uniform policies must be updated? I remember when my friend fainted in school during a heatwave because we were not allowed to wear shorts, nor remove our blazers whilst in class!

I have a lot of respect for these kids. Dress codes and uniforms are archaic.

It's always been the same in schools and in the workplace. Men have to wear trousers. I doubt they will change uniform.

just b/c it's always been the same doesn't mean we shouldn't question the status quo. wearing a uniform or "professional clothing" doesn't have any impact or influence on the effective contributions you make to society, or your learning.

The 'status quo' has been questioned for years. We were doing this in school over 10 years ago. A school uniform is meant to prevent bullying and allows others to recognise the students. In a workplace it is just to look proffessional. Whether i agree or not it isn't going to change.

They will just let the lads wear 3/4 length trousers is all.

Gurl in where I live it's HOT all year long and boys in upper secondary still have to wear long trousers everyday.

Some of my teachers used to say it was to prevent bullying, but still bullies are bullies and will find a way to bully no matter what, they can go off appearance, shoes etc. so I don't really see that as an actual reason

Whilst I do comprehend why schools need uniforms, I believe that they should be flexible and not strict.
