Prevent bullying? In the outside world you're very much more than likely not going to wear a uniform, so why should we teach kids that the only way to not have bullying in a community is to wear one? Shouldn't we let them learn how to survive in the outside world and teach them how to accept one another regardless of appearance? Uniforms in a way only serves to shelter kids, at the same time oppress their freedom to wear what they want.

Most jobs will have some sort of uniform or dress code. In an ideal world accepting one another is brilliant and im all for any solution that you could offer but we don't live in that world. 

Wearing a uniform is meant to prevent bullying and also removes the judgment. Not all families can afford the most expensive clothes etc. Non-uniform days at school always used to be a mess, there was always that one kid who got picked on.

This surely must be considered, and uniform policies must be updated? I remember when my friend fainted in school during a heatwave because we were not allowed to wear shorts, nor remove our blazers whilst in class!

School uniform is so stupid, all its there for is to put people in a box where they are same. No individualality allowed. Glad they are speaking out about this

The excuse for uniforms in places like schools is just that - an excuse. And its tired and tested to not be even successful

So instead of punishing the bullies, we're going to ruin the fun for everyone?

Whats next? Are we gonna have to wear a burqa so no one can tell what we look like because we could get picked on for it?

I agree with this so much, I actually had discussion with a friend yesterday. Male clothing is always so form fitted and when we have to be "elegant" we are always supposed to wear a suit even though it's 35 degrees. For women on the other hand it's fine to wear a dress, a skirt or a jumpsuit. I just wish male fashion would somehow change. Make elegant ponchos, jumpsuits or whatever that MEN can wear.

Really feel sorry for them in the 35c heatwave with no AC in schools, some even having to keep their blazers on & windows opening a tiny amount due to regulations on multi floor buildings. Some kids got sent home for breaking uniform rules as they took off their school jackets. I use to HATE those days. I remember wearing shorts in primary schools.

Coming from somewhere where uniforms will be implemented soon,i seriously can not understand certain people.If it is hot outside and if our classroom doesn't have  A/C it will be absurd to wear long shirts and trousers when it is 40C outside.

And also,do not come for me by saying that there will be summer and winter versions of it.Most kids at my school don't have the money to spend on books where each book costs 20$ let alone uniforms which will cost significantly more than that.

There are more pressing things in the world than uniforms.If the kid wants to wear shorts,he can wear shorts.

I still think that shorts should only stay in our casual lives. If these kids faint because of a heatwave, good luck with formal academic/business world

Some kids might prefer a uniform so they don't have to wear their own clothes. I didn't think my individuality was oppressed and neither did anyone i know. You express that in so many ways not just in the tshirt you wear. I don't think i had any less fun either because I wore a pair of trousers. All personal examples obv.

This specific example I agree they should be allowed to wear suitable clothing for the weather but getting rid of uniform all together is a much larger discussion.
